BMW OEM Wheel Question-Staggered Versus Square Setup

Hi All:

I'm looking for a bit of advice and other's experiences regarding square setups versus staggered setups.

We currently own two E92s, a 2009 328 xDrive, and a 2011 335i. We recently put new aftermarket wheels on the 335i, which had the OEM Style 342 in staggered configuration, Front - 8x18 34mm offset, and Rear, 8.5x18 37mm offset. I have those wheels now sitting in boxes in my garage and would like to swap them over and install them on the 328 xDrive, but before doing so I want to make sure that I won't run into any issues with a staggered setup in these sizes on an xDrive vehicle.

For reference, the current setup on the 328 xDrive is square 18x8 34mm offset OEM style 197.

Thoughts? Maybe our folks at TireRack might have some input? Any issues I need to be concerned with? I did do an extensive search but couldn't find any threads that specifically addressing this scenario.

Thanks all!

Shouldn't have a problem, as long as front and rear outside diameters of the tires are close. I don't have an X drive, so I don't know for sure, but I've seen references stating up to 3% difference is OK, but some say no more than 1%.

Use https://www.willtheyfit.com/ to determine tire diameter differences.

From a xdrive perspective, the 335i xdrive with Sport Package runs staggered from factory. So with that in mind and what Emilime75 mentions about 1-3% - shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks, guys.

I did plug the numbers into the willtheyfit website and it looks like there'll be no issues with fitment/rubbing, which I wasn't really concerned with. Heck, the E92 wheel wells look large enough to fit 21's!

My bigger concern was the staggered setup in conjunction with the actual xDrive system and any issues that might arise and/or affect the system itself. Thanks das_blau for confirming that the 335i xDrive SP is staggered from the factory. This is the sort of information I was looking for.

Thanks again!

Crap, just realized I need to update my profile!

RS 3 is long gone - traded it in on a 2018 M2 in June!

Staggered wheels with square tires

I am looking into purchasing a set of BMW 162 staggered wheels(18x8 and 18x8.5) and want to run the same size tire (225/40-18) on all four wheels. I would run the same size wheel on either the front or rear axle.
I have a 2006 325xi. Will the work?

No issues but i'd go 235/40/18 unless they're winter tires, then 225.
