Coding rain/light sensor sensitivity?

My rain sensor seems to be very lax about cycling the auto wipers even with the dial on the stalk turned all the way up, and my rearview mirror dims very little at night. Can these sensitivity settings be adjusted by coding, and does anyone know what settings I should look for? I have a laptop with NCSExpert and a Creator C110.

Sensitivity can definitely be adjusted. I think Carly even has it as a programmable function. I'm sure someone remembers what code it was. If not I'll take a look sometime this weekend.

it's not in carly, at least no where I can find. using their adapter.

I would also like to know how the sensitivity adjustment works. My photochromatic mirrors suck since I tinted the glass.

I've heard so many complaints about the sensitivity being either too high or low. Is there a way to code off the sensor and turn the wheel into a potentiometer?

Look around in your RLS and FZD modules, that's your best bet to find something.

IIRC if there's a rain sensor failure the system reverts back to intermittent control with the wheel setting speed.

so maybe just unplug the rain sensor?

so some googling.

this is for the E39, but I imagine it's going to be similar.

My car has the FZD module but no RLS. I'll look into the FZD and see if anything stands out. Any other modules where the function could be?

Is it easy to unplug - where is the plug ?

OP seems not to want to go the potentiometer route but change the sensitivity. To me the rain sensor is just like building a better mouse trap.

Correction - I do have RLS. I was going by what an INPA shot showed and it's not there but just looked with NCSE

I actually quite like the rain sensor, though the one in my wife's volvo works better.

the plug is under the plastic cover where the mirror is. Pop that of and the fogging/rain/light sensors are all there.

I believe that the light/rain sensor share a plug, so in order to keep the auto headlamps you may have to depin the plug to only affect the rain sensor.

Its not very sensitive to small drops and I believe its
speed sensitive to(mph) . It doesn't stop raining just because
you came to a stop so that is lame.

If you do the calibration routine it works better for a little
while then seems to settle back into it's old habits.

Yeah, I don't want to disable the rain sensor. I like the function. It just seems like sometimes in light-medium rain it cycles much more slowly than I'd like, and no matter how hard it's raining it'll never go to high speed. I recall the auto wipers in my E46 working much better, which is why I thought there might be some adjustment.

The only reference to the mirror I could find in a backup NFRM file I had was "spiegel_elektrochrom" set to aktiv. No adjustable values that I could find. I haven't coded anything to FZD or RLS modules so I don't have backups I can search, and the weather's too nasty to mess with it tonight.

you can clear the adaptations and it will usually re-calibrate to be more sensitive. best to do this with a clean, dry windshield of course.
