Best SSK (short shift kit) for e90
Is the BMW oem version the best for SSK? Any other "hands-on opinions" compared to other makers? What other kits are superior to the BMW version of the SSK and why?

I have the BMS kit, and while it's fine I wouldn't recommend it. I don't have experience with the BMW oem.
Now, my friend has a UUC kit which I really liked. So much so that I think I'll be swapping mine out for one. It's tight and direct and not overly notchy or difficult to shift. Meanwhile the BMS just feels loose and has a lot of side to side play when in gear. |

I put the BMW Performance shift lever for E90 into my E30, and I love it. I refreshed the entire linkage at the same time, so it's nice and tight and direct. The throw feels just right, not too long, not too overly short.

http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E9...ransm_4_wheel/ See drawing at link above. There are something like 8 or more individual components that will age and add slop. It's possible that your friend's car just has less wear in these areas. |

A short shift lever is not going to address the slop or play in your linkage. That's a function of the wear on the bushings that support the selector rod, which is the link between the bottom of the lever and the trans. There's also a wear item that supports the shift lever ball/pivot point, the ball socket or cup bushing, that can wear out. These are what cause looseness and side-to-side play etc.
Appreciate the information, but I replaced the shifter bushing at time of install, purchased the recommended DSSR to pair with the SSK, and used all the new hardware that came with it. Maybe I'm missing something, but seems like I've covered my bases here. This is also my second BMS kit on the e9x platform and first one was similar in slop (although it's more of an annoyance on my current car). I would simply avoid it in favor of BMW or another higher quality brand. |

However, that may be a moot point because the BMW option is no longer available. You'd have to find one secondhand. P/N 25110430360 is the kit with shift boot, knob, and the shift arm with replacement lever bearing. P/N 25110434217 is the shift lever only. |

I have the Dinan SSK, which was available on FCP last time I checked. No complaints at all, except the shifter cup install is a pain due to their half shifter ball design.
If I revisit the SSK, I will purchase the Turner setup. More adjustability and from what I can tell better engineered. |
