some guy in a ford escort wagon tried to drag me!

OHHHHHH man...that was freakin hilarious...i was at the line. just waiting for the light to turn green...(both my parents were in the car). so i wasnt planning on racing this guy...for obvious reasons...

so...light turns green...and i just do a pretty normal start...revs pretty low when i let out the clutch...untill i noticed that this guy has just hammered his car. so at about 2500 or so i noticed and just pinned the 330i....the back end wanted to step out a bit (it had just rained so the roads were a bit slick) but traction control took care of that....1st gear- redline...back beside him....second gear- redline, by this time i am alrady just pulling away from him....third gear-just under red (started going to fast, didnt want a ticket)

anways...just thought i would share with all of you that in your 330i you can beat a ford escort wagon off the line haha...

You went up to 80mph before you lost him? With your parents in the car, from a light?

Sounds like those Ford's do pretty well...

Pretty soon your parents are going to get the very popular bumper sticker: "Proud parent of a son who can beat an Escort wagon." My parents have one on their car for me.

i never understand why people in cars like that think they can race. its like these nascar dads in minivans who think they are race car drivers too. oh and don't even get me started on this fart can muffler kids. it almost makes driving annoying b/c at every light some tool wants to race you in their junker.

What really kills me is the people in Saturns. For some reason, maybe just here in Jersey, they seem to be the sterotypical challenger to a BMW.

This guy in a green Saturn (how could I miss that color?) got on my tail two days ago, then weaved into the fast lane alongside me. I then proceeded to the far right lane which was clear, and this guy guns out ahead of the next car in the fast lane & attempts to cut me off by crossing two lanes of cars....

I proceeded to run rings around him. Literally. Cory1000 would have been impressed.

good point jvfan. the roads in this country are already too crowded with racer wannabes. show some class and leave the racing to the track

racing these lame cars makes you as bad as they are

Trust me, it wasn't as "reckless" as I described.

That was just the memory of the irritation that I had pent up inside me talking.

Nah, they're obnoxious wherever you find 'em.

Reminds me of a story ... growing up in Northern Virginia just outside DC, my father used to always say 'Maryland drivers are the worst'. Years later on a family vacation to California we were rear-ended .... yep - by a car with Maryland plates. Nowadays I'm tempted to tell my kids 'Saturn drivers are the worst', but I don't want 'em getting hit by one.

Don't know which came first the attitude or the Saturn.

bahhh , i just finished break in and was gonna test my toy in a closed straight near my neighborhood, the neon happen to appear as i started rolling out . Also anyone with a 6speed manual, does 2nd gear seem difficult to engange when shifting at redline in first?, I find it hard to engage and it takes me a little more time than it would on my cts.

People,

Please be careful with your/our pride and joy. We know how well they do, let others THINK they can out drag us. Not worth the risk, even if your car is under control, it's the other driver that doesn't have the chassis dynamics of the BMW that may very easily become undone.

I concur 100% with JVFan.

Let's not read a post where any e90 owner lets us know that disaster occurred because of a dangerous drag race they were in. We read and hear about such tragedies so often when a driver loses control and maimes or kills someone. Just had another young, inexperienced idiot in a Subaru WRX in my city maim 6 a few days ago because of their foolishness. It's not worth it.
Remember, we all drive on public roads.

i agree with david and JVfan. i almost went over the center divider on the way home from work a few months back because two cars were goofing off and one lost control and swerved into my lane. no accidents thankfully. it could have been a lot worse.

The feeling of pulling 130mph on a crowded freeway with another idiot is priceless......but I've overcome the urge or thirst.....because I want to see my kids grow up....that's an honest truth.

Street racing kills.......don't do it. Not worth it.
I've seen a Porsche flipped over 4-5 times while racing some dude in a Mustang......on a 4 lane street.

p.s. goodbye to "riced-up" mitsubishi eclipse(mine was white)....hello E90!

I was scanning down the 0-60 numbers in the back of Road & Track and the 330i E90 (at least by _their_ measurement) is not exactly a dragster. But its not intended as such - not sure why people think this is supposed to be a fast car. Its not shabby by any stretch, but stop lights are not its element.

By the way, what, in the name of pete, is that thing sticking up in the air on the back of that Eclipse?

Agreed. A young guy swerved into our lane on the Mass Pike doing over 90 in a VW Golf, lost it, zigged, zagged, hit the center concrete and flipped in front of us.

I prefer to see this stuff in the movies. My wife was driving, her reactions are good, the E36's brakes are good, and we buy good tyres. Otherwise we'd be in the big mess too.

Don't you street racers who claim to go 120mph+ ever think of the legal comsequences of getting clocked that fast? I have a V1 and trust it enough to cruise at 90 on the Parkway or Turnpike, but 120 is a little excessive. Getting my license revoked always crosses my mind when I want to give it a little more gas.
