ya I'm sure i can find someone local that will either let me measure or just return the parts, i have modified the stock 335 brakes to fit 16s but would like to go to 15s for various reasons so this seems like a better option then over paying for ad kit. worst case i return the parts and buy the ad kit lol

I wish I had something close to the size I could experiment with

Shop for used parts. At least used calipers. I see them regularly for $70 to $100 for the complete rear set. Not very expensive to experiment with.
Also, you can start a thread or use other social media outlets where others intereted will donate little money to whom is willing to do the work.

I have done it with wood but mostly due to lack of alternatives. I started modifying cars in very different place and different times.

Do you know some 16's that would work?

I believe style 306,360,390,391 other 16" from older BMW. Usually they are 16x7 or 16x7.5

.
Are the X1 and E9x 328i rear calipers the same? Someone who has the AD kit said the calipers are E9x rear calipers.

I researched the parts mentioned to get a feel for the cost. I used only new parts to get an apples to apples comparison. It comes out to about $350 using OEM items, with aftermarket calipers. Used calipers drop the total price by about $70.

For $100, I'd just assume buy the whole set complete from AD.

I still need clarity on whether the X1 or 528i rotors are the right ones (paired with E90 328i calipers).

Part numbers shown below.

[ ] 528i rotors (x2): #34211164175 ($168/set) (or 34216767060 ?)
[ ] X1 rotors (E48)# 34216799369 ($170/set)
[ ] E90328i - rear pads set #34216774692 ($75)
[ ] E90 328i - rear wear sensor (1x) #34356789445 ($10, aftermarket)
[ ] E90 328i - rear calipers ($750 X2 OEM), $124/AutoZone

Where are doing your shopping Ghost? Those prices are awefully high! 5-seriers Mayle rotors are about $40 each. Used calipers are also about $40 each. I can build this kit for $150. To answer your question those rotors they sell are 5-series paired with 328i calipers.

Thanks for the answer!

The prices for the OEM parts are the best you can get non-wholesale (Tischer, ECS, etc). You can't compare used prices to a new AD kit. Used calipers, are indeed $100 as acknowledged above.

You didn't list OEM pads, nor wear sensor. I don't believe there is a way to have this setup new for $1xx. Hell, calipers and rotors alone are $200 (using your $40 rotor example), and that doesn't inside the pads nor sensor. With all aftermarket parts, $250 may be doable.

This mod has ONLY one goal, fitting smaller 16" or 15" inch wheels, not improving braking performance. So please please don't reply with nonsense like but those calipers and pads are used....those rotors are no name brand...

Still trying to figure out the oem wheel thing. If you're going for a drag setup, you want wide wheels. Like 10" or 11" on our cars so you can fit wide tires.

For that back home I used 4 x 15" steel rims, cut them and weld them together , build 2 wide out of 4 narrow.

2" wide wheels for the rear? Oh, reread. Why would you want to go through all that work and still have crappy heavy expensive wheels instead of clean better looking, stronger lighter, cheaper? Still have no clue why euros are so stuck on crappy oem wheels.

Some steel wheels are lighter then alloy. Perhaps we are stuck but is probably just circumstantial. I assume you know what I mean.
