clutch and DMF replacement cost - dealer ripoff!!!
Hi Guys...my E90 320D when I press the clutch down half way through is making slight rattling noise..just get an idea..I took it to Mr clutch at Maidenhead..the guy looked at it immediately said I will need to get the Dual Mass Flywheel and the clutch to be replaced...quote £1168 altogether...
then I rang BMW Sytner Sunnigdale...and only parts came up to £1250 GBP and the labour they said they will ring me later..I am sure it would be £500+ so I am looking at a huge bill... please help is there any where I could get this cheaper...first of all is this true that I need to get the DMF and also cluth replaced? any ideas suggestions will be very pleased...thank you.. |

my car is 2006 model..no warranty...I dont mind spending and getting this repaired..it is just that it looks like they are quoting a lot..if it really costs that much then I will get it done..so all I am looking for is how much it actually costs...also are they telling me the truth that I need the DMF and also clutch to be replaced... |

It does sound like a DMF problem I'm afraid! How many miles has it done?
Look on Eurocarparts website to check the price of the DMF and the clutch that will give you some idea wether they're prices are reasonable! |

The DMF is never a cheap part, and it is most likely that the DMF is the problem rather than the clutch.
With labour cost what they are, you are always best to just change both at the same time, since the car is already stripped down that much for either part. Personally, I would look for a BMW specialist local to you to do the work. BMW will obviously be charging top money, and while a company such as Mr. Clutch may be good, I would always be happier having someone who really knows the marque really well working on the car. As they will be working on them everyday, rather than working on all different cars. |

My car is done 94,000 miles...and the sound when I press the clutch down is similar to the video below: thanks for the input...so if this is a DMF issue..then I will get it done from a local BMW specialist this weekend..thanks all.. Yeah definitely sound like DMF!
At that milage you would be wise to change it at the same time as the clutch, even if it sounded fine! I would say approx £1000 at an Indy would be a reasonable price to change them both. As already mentioned better to use an Indy with good reputation rather than Mrclutch! |

£1000 isn't too bad in all reality for what your getting. At least you will then know that wont need done for another 90-odd thousand miles.
Wouldn't count on there being no other bills coming up though. As any car approaches 100k there will be all manner of issues coming to light. Bushes, suspension, brakes etc... Oh the joys of car ownership. |

I got my clutch and DMF done for £770 at a BMW speciialist using OEM parts (inc release bearing).
I rang Sytner Solihull for parts only and they got it down to just over £500. The rest was labour. |

The garage was JS Prestige in tamworth - BMW specialists.
I dont know if its necessary but it makes little sense to not do the clutch because the clutch is cheap it's the dmf and labour that's expensive. There is no point leaving an old clutch in to have to do that later. Also, as they work so closely together an old clutch may not be good for your new flywheel at a guess… |
