Im surprised some of you guys are even mentioning broken axles. Imagine the trans or engine bill But imagine how badass a daily driven 5-600 whp bmw would be. ))). Hopefully people learn how to tune these beasts before just boosting away..

this is the same when i got out of VW scene where people were buying axles left and right, then fuel systems, brakes, suspension, tranny, diff, then built motor..it never ends. $15k VW GTI became $60k sink hole. if you enjoy modding sure, spend it and enjoy it. if you want power only, just faster car to begin with.

just simple example:

500chp '07 M5 is $35k
400chp '08 335 with mods is $35k

in 5 years M5 will hold up better in value and reliability. sure, they are different cars, but you can take Z06 or E63amg or whatever you like that's faster.
+1 as well on buying a faster car if you want to go faster.

That's why I have a 335i and a tune, that's it. faster enough, affordable, economical and safe. If I wanted a 500hp car, then I would have owned a C6 + cam/intake/exhaust.

There's a lot more money needed to make this a properly modified car than the $6000 asking price. I'd say you'd be closer to $12K after the mods.

Yea many people are forgetting;

Tune - 800
Meth - 500-1000
Downpipes - 600
Intake - 100
FMIC - 1000
LSD - 1200 +
Suspension - 1500+

That's at a minimum what I would do, this does not include other suspension components, tires, DP back exhaust, etc. On the flip side, I would say most people getting the turbo are more than likely going to be FBO +.

+1
I said this like 3 pages back lol
Everyone saw the price and was like "wow, i can have a 600whp N54 for $6K" in reality, $6K will buy you a lot of parts(but not enough to get it running) and you'll have to provide A LOT of labor and fabbing. I'm not knocking HPF, just pointing this out.

So would it be more beneficial to invest the $10K+ into this kit or just trade up to an M5 or GT-R? I absolutely love my 335 but I'd just like to know

personal preference...

You're comparing the 335i to totally different cars. What are your goals? We don't even have the numbers on the kit yet...

People dump 60k into civic hatchbacks and love it. Dump 15k into a 996 tt and have a 600+ awhp beast without the added luxuries of the 335i.

I am waiting to see numbers before upgrading the 335i.

edit: also, "invest" is not the term you want to use. Dump 10k into it, be lucky to get 2k-4k of that 10 back when selling. Sometimes you lose money because people want it unmolested.

Here's a more realistic list one should be running. Technically, you can get away with not having M3 suspension and rear toe arms but have fun controlling that monster.

Engine
  • Procede v5 (this is the only tuner for this setup for now)
  • FMIC
  • Chargepipe + BOV
  • Intake (CAI, Mr5 or Helix-type)
  • Single 3" (AMS) or 3.5" (HPF) DP-back exhaust
  • Upgraded oil cooler
  • Upgraded radiator
  • Newer water pump* (until old one goes out?)
  • Meth* (hopefully optional)
  • Downpipes* (I think this comes with the HPF kit)

Suspension
  • M3 Suspension
  • Adjustable Rear Toe Arms
  • Wheels/Tires

Transmission
  • Rebuild tranny for AT guys
  • Clutch for MT guys
  • LSD for AT/MT
  • DSS Axles

Not saying I disagree with everyone who thinks it's going to be $6k on the mark but the list of mods above is typically already installed on an enthusiasts car.

People looking for the single snail are more than likely fbo already. I think if you're full bolt on already, this kit should cost you no more than $9k installed and with all parts.

I'll install the kit myself and already have a 1M. $6K for me. Not sure why everyone is speculating on it as if there is no way to buy just the kit and tune.

The only, only disappointment I have is that it is not a twin-scroll manifold. Either way, it should enable some real power to be made with the right combo of parts.

I don't really care if I'm dropping that much money into this car. Not planning on selling it either! I love my car I don't want an m5 with 500 hp or gtr I rather have my 335 to play with... I like how this car looks better than an m5 or gtr but that's just me and my opinion

V-Brace

Maybe I missed it in all the sidebar, but has anyone asked how much the upgraded V-Brace is going to cost?

If you're one that needs to calculate the total cost of this kit, with add ons, I'd think that would be an important detail for you.

Unless, of course, you don't mind the back side of your motor sagging in the engine bay.

the people saying get a new car should just leave the thread and stop wasting their own breath and everyones time. You're preaching to the wrong group of people. Every single person who buys any car who plans on modding has different goals. Just because you would rather have a modded C6 over a high hp bmw doesn't mean the rest of the world wants the same.

JP, you're misunderstanding a little bit... I agree with what you said; a modified BMW has its merits and it's nice to have a luxury coupe with this much power but at some point it comes down to a simple cost analysis. In other words; is this worth it... As someone has already once pointed out; this whole kit will cost after all is said and done with suspension upgrade and transmission issues worked out probably upwards of 15-20K with bolt ons and such. At that point assuming you paid for your car 50K; add 15-20K and you have a 1.5 year old GTR... a car that has zero traction issues, can run 1/4 all day successfully and with a simple tune and y-pipe can make 550 AWHP that is usable in absolutely every situation. With that; that car is reliable at that power level, will keep its resale value much better and is overall still a better / cooler car for the price. The BMW will still have traction issues at low speeds, will still have certain 1/4 mile / tranny issues and will be next to useless when it comes to selling it. Take a look at Enrita, he's spent 15-20K on his car but can't beat a stock Z06 with a crappy driver.

I love what HPF is doing here and i've been waiting for this a long time but it appears to be an option only for hardcore drag racers and few others... To me; the best setup on this platform is the Hotrod setup - tune/dci/meth/dp's which has proven to be very reliable, cheap and effective.

Add to that the fact; that the wait for this product will be long once it starts and the fact that its taken us 5 years to get here...

You're not blowing anyone's doors off, the GTR with the tune and y-pipe will go high 10's@130 without trouble. You will still have traction issues below 50 in almost all cases and more than likely reliability issues. If you're going by that standard; then I'll buy a Civic for 10K, drop 15K into it and blow your doors off...
