330d m57 high mileage and original parts

Im looking for an e91 and found a few high mileage 330ds.. some have had loads of stuff done to them, but the one that is interesting to me has been serviced as per the schedule (oil approx every 20k miles).

It's on 170k and the current owner hasn't had to replace anything aside from routine servicing: clutch, turbo, dpf, glow plugs, bushes, etc. In my mind that's good and bad: either everything was replaced in the miles before he bought it (around 100k), or everything is original and everything is close to being worn out.

It's cheap enough, a manual and only a couple owners.

Am I mad to go for it or as it's been on the motorway all its life, it could be a good bet? It's not on the forum btw..

Are you saying clutch, turbo, DPF has been replaced? If so that's very good. I've had a few e90 diesels so have learnt a few things.

The M57 as a block is fairly solid I'd say. I was in a similar position to you and I went for it, however I'm fairly handy round a car and have done the following maintainence:

- Boost hose (oil leak replacement)
- Front shocks and springs (a spring snapped at 150k)
- Rear shocks (completely blown)
- Manifold clean / replacement
- EGR and Main thermostats replaced
- Front wheel bearings
- Rear wheel bearings (had to take the assembly to a shop as they were seized! Took a 20tonne press a good few hours to have one of them out.
- Front discs and pads
- Rear discs and pads
- Intercooler cleaned out

Obviously I service the vehicle as well. The car is in great shape and runs very well. I'd look at those bits.

That's great, many thanks.

No, none of those major items I listed have been replaced, and none of the ones you listed have been either.

What mileage is yours?

Currently around the 160k mark.

Have a good look around the car. A lot of the stuff I listed is an easy diy so cost was minimal.

I'd just go for the one that I like best. You can't predict what's going to go wrong next.
