M sport double spoke are option 225M - they look very similar to the option 269 performance wheel

Just phoned the BMW number to find out what the latest is (0800 777 129 - customer services) and was told that I need to get my two cracked wheels looked at by my local dealer who will then liase with them. So will see what happens next...

Took my two cracked rear wheels to the local dealer this afternoon and after an hour and a half wait I was told that they would talk to the regional manager and I would hear in a day or two.
Half an hour later I got a call saying that their tests showed that the wheels were out of true (no sh*t, they are cracked after all) and that although it was still not a warranty issue they would replace both my wheels as a goodwill gesture.
Asked why I had replaced my entire set of wheels and tyres I said because I wasn't prepared to fork out another 1000 to BMW for two more wheels that will crack again in a few thousand miles. At least now I will have some new and un-cracked wheels when I sell the car on...

Great work on getting this on Watchdog guys. I've not followed the issue for a while now as I had my 335 nicked, and took the opportunity to become a non-BMW owner for the first time in years. Wankers pissed me off for the last time over the cracked wheels!

I've added my details to the cracked wheels thread (mine where 230s), and will now be after BMW for the 550 quid they made me shell out on two new rears 12 months ago.

Similar but not exact. For one, the shape of the spokes is opposite. For another, the 225s are silver while the 269s are a bit darker, kinda grayish.

Back in March. Nicked off the drive by some kids who came down from London. Was recovered a week later in Wandsworth after a chase through London. Tried to get away up the pavement, got wedged between a wall and a lamppost. Twats!

Was gutted, I loved the car. Just had a kid so decided to go a bit cheaper, and it was a good opportunity to move away from BM after the treatment I got over the wheels.

.....thats why I didn't say they looked exactly the same

(but without being pedantic they do look 'similar')

My dealer has offered to supply my new e93 with 228 V spoke wheels and non run flat tyres instead of standard M highline offering of 225M wheel and run flats.

I would welcome people's thoughts as to whether I should stay with standard offering now that BMW are replacing wheels or accept the dealers offer of these new wheels.

Thanks,

Its up to you. If you like the 228s, then why not. I suspect they are an expensive "Individual" wheel, but for me they would not look good on an M Sport. They may have been sitting around in the dealership for sometime.

If it was me, I'd either

a) take the 225s with Run Flats - on the condition that if they cracked BMW would replace them and fit non-runflats. If these cracked, then they could replace them with 228s or alternative.

or

b) insist on 313s on non-runflats

I'd probably try and go for the latter - and cancel my order if they didn't play ball.

If you go for a), get the details in writing, otherwise they may wriggle out later on the basis "you knew the risks you were taking with 225s".

I'd agree with ajd's b, although I'd also take the 269's as an option with the 313's.
I'd take runflat's, BUT take them off within 24hrs of getting the car and replace them with non RFT's.(keep the RFT's for sale or p/ex time.)

If it was just a choice between 225's or 228's (ghastly!), I'd go 225's, but as ajd's 'a':

If you go for a), get the details in writing, otherwise they may wriggle out later on the basis "you knew the risks you were taking with 225s".

Thanks for the replies. Is the ride on the run flats so bad that havng just paid 40k for a car I should get new tyres? Someone already suggested bridgestone p2's. Does anyone else know of ood non run flat, 19" tyred for the e93.

One other thing, I don't want a half wit wealding tyre wrench near brand new alloys, is there a good national tyre fitter to use?

Thanks again

Yeah I can't work out why the pics aren't showing - they're up on flickr

Broke into the house and nicked the keys. Presumed it was stolen to order, but turned out they were using it as a 'pool' car - got used to getaway in a few jobs during the week.

On another note, I'm going to contact BMW to ask about getting the 550 quid back I had to spend on two rears 12 months ago. What is the 'special' number they have set up for this? And for anyone who has been through this process, what is the general response like? Any advice as to the approach I should take?

Thanks

Plenty of people here have either had their cars for a while and had trouble or are about to buy a new car and want to safeguard against future problems. Just wondering if anyone already has a relatively new car and what they plan to do about this.

Girlfriend bought new E92 320i m sport highline with 19" 225m alloys & RFTs less than 6 months ago.

Obviously we're concerned about future cracking of the wheels. Car has only got 2000 miles on clock and had no problems at all but we don't want to wait for this to happen.

Planning to contact dealer and see what advice they suggest. Wondering if there's any chance at all that they'll swap the wheels/tyres for something else. Say 18" with non-RFTs???

What would others do in this situation.

Cheers
