Carbon Filter removal

Hey guys...

I was under my hood, and figured I'd go for the carbon filter delete mod. Took me like 10-15 minutes...

I'd say I've noticed a slight increase in top-end power, and a little bit more engine bay noise... I'll give it a few more days to see if I really feel a difference...

Any other opinions on this?

And I know it's a repost, but this is MY thread. lol.

I removed the filter and installed a K&N drop in filter at the same time. I notice 0 difference in power, responce, or mpg. Right after the engine had a cleaner sound to it but after a week it all sounds the same.

Mines a lease too, but that's only for the monthly payment to be lower. I'm going to buy the car out.

I'm going full show (with all the go!)

I didn't need a dremmel, I used a pocket knife, and it took me almost NO time. it cuts RIGHT out, bro. Took me 10-15 minutes from popping the hood to closing it, including cleaning up the charcoal mess I made.

i should sand it though to make sure BMW doesnt notice this...as i think if a problem were to occur to the engine they may be able to blame the charcoal filter...unless that filter is only for emission purposes...i think i found out what im doing tomorrow!

I did mine and used a K&N filter, and noticed almost no difference as well. Then about 3 weeks later, my car all of a sudden "woke up" to it. I don't understand how, because I did dis-connect the battery for an hour to help re-set the ECU. At any rate, I had almost forgotten I did it, then I was driving to work and was like "ahhhh, now I feel it". Throttle response, and slightly quicker to rev is what I notice. I doubt there is any measurable HP gain.

So, is it possible to remove the carbon/charcoal filter and not replace it with anything else? At least for the time being?

that's actually the whole idea. There are TWO filters in the intake box. There's the air cleaner, and an emissions related carbon filter (the grey/white filter) ATTACHED to the intake, it's NOT a normally removable filter, like the air cleaner.

So, you just cut it out, clean it up, and reinstall the intake.
