the badge on the left says that you have to change the spark plugs after 60k km.....that`s a lot!
I can`t imagine that they would endure another 60k km with increased engine power

It is very strange. It seems that your dealer made the same mistake as mine. The 51 74 2 157 674 part is for the BMW Performance bumper, the 51 74 2 157 672 seems to be the correct part for the M-Sport. The ordering system is very confusing.

I have looked at the 674 part when it arrived and it just does not fit, unless modified (however the backplate for the radiator fits). So now I am waiting for the 672 part.

What does "Bezeichung- Abdeckung" mean ?

Power Kit

It's the identifier and a some type of cover panel (not sure what though, it was only a few euro, where the duct piece was approx 120). I am not sure on the modification they needed to make if this clearly didn't fit but will probably just go with it since all seems to be working fine and I don't recognize any fitting issues. If you find that the m-sport ducting proper is different or better, please let me know!

Looked at RealOem.com, that is the OBD2 cover panel, it seems yours was missing or they have lost it then replaced it (its a little panel situated near your left foot in the cabin).

I have seen a picture of the M-Sport ducting in the Power Kit installation document and it is really different because it has to accomodate the brake ducts (part of the M-Sport package) as well. However I think your dealer just used the back plate from the 674 kit and did a simple modification in front of the brake duct to allow part of the air flow to escape to the radiator. I wanted to do the same thing but I have ordered the 672 part in the end (I'm still waiting for this to arrive).

Also, is your front picture of the car made after the Power Kit installation ? Because if it is after the power kit, they should have removed some plastic from the right front grille (near the foglight) in order to allow more air to enter the radiator (that's what I read in the installation manual).

Great Power Tune. All BMW guaranty, that's nice. The differences you are describing before/after does confince! And very nice indeed that the horsepower difference is in the high(!) revs, that's indeed exactly what you want!

Yes! My OBDII cover was missing, so this is it. Now you have me worried on the ducting cstavaru; thank you...(-: Please keep me posted on the progress as I may need to visit the dealer again to have this corrected. I didn't notice any modification to the front m-sport bumper or grill either! Thank you for your work on this one.

Can you READ? I wasn't talking about power! I was talking about the throttle response.
I agree with you... old dirty spark plugs = lag in throttle response = waste of fuel = bad fuel economy, and it has nothing to do with additional power tat any tune or reflash would provide.

I don't know, this sounds like a great option for those who track their cars signifigantly. Other than that, the power to cost ratio is way to out of proportion, warranty or not.

Nope, one was rumored, but nothing has ever surfaced.

It's a great deal, relative to most OEM Mod cost/$. What it is out of proportion to are the inexpensive aftermarket devices that raise boost (piggys, SSTT, etc.).

It just looks like a lot of money for such an additional power increase.

Keeping the car under warranty isn't free. To put it in perspective, this kit costs just a little more than most aftermarket exhaust systems, but will have a much better performance boost.

The kit is also cheaper than the oil cooler Dinan makes you buy if you don't have an OEM cooler already on the car.

Plus, a genuine BMW kit will probably actually help the resale value of the car, unlike any 3rd-party mods.

Exactly right. It's a pretty rare thing in the world of $50k cars to expect a 15% increase in power with a $250 plug-in or a 30% increase with a $600 one.

If this was a $1500 factory installed option when I ordered my car back in May I would have probably gotten it (that delusional new car money doesn't count logic). Paying my local dealer full retail for the parts plus labor (probably $2,000-$2500), I'll probably pass.

At the end of the day, if you're not tracking your car and it overheats, it's defective as far as I'm concerned. If you are tracking it, I'm not sure it's been clearly established that your normal warranty would apply even with this kit anyway.

I do applaud the effort though and wish BMW offered a full line of parts at reasonable prices - I think they would do well.

high rpm power?

cstavaru,

a couple of us had asked about power above 5800 rpms. does the performance tune hold more boost/deliver more pwer in the upper rpms, or does it fall off abruptly around 5800 rpms as stock does?

thanks

95% of the modded E90 community is still covered under warranty.. How often are you hearing of someone getting their warrany voided, very slim around here and most people on this site have a tune.
