Intermittent strange “whining noise”
Hey everyone, hope all is well. I’m a new member here & I have a 2008 335xi. Anybody have and ideas as to what this noise is? Between 2,000-3,500rpm. Not waste gate rattle or turbo siren whine. Really not sure. Comes and goes. More often when engine is warm. Seems affected by outside temp too. My belt & pulleys squeak on cold start and lasts about 10-15 minutes, I’m replacing them next week. Is this issue related to the belt/pulleys or something else.
Thank you all for your help. Sound clip: Last edited by INOAHWAY; 02-20-2018 at 11:41 PM.. |

you need a mechanics stethoscope or a long screwdriver.
isolate the noise. FWIW my n52 odd whining noise was the oil filter. changed teh oil and put a new filter in it, no more odd whining. Filter that failed was Mann with les than 7K miles on it. |
