I've had many modified cars and now I'm in the market for a 335, your build gave me pretty much all the answers and ideas on what to do and how to approach it. As for the Dyno numbers God every forum you go to there is someone banging on about who's car made bloody what. Sad truth is that many don't even have anything modified and never felt 250kw atw car, let alone anything more than that. Secret to a good overall street car is response and bit of top end since you spend 70% driving under 5000 rpm BUT I'm sure that there will be someone out there that will disagree. Keep up the good work bud and also if you have any tips when it comes to what to look out for when buying a 335 please PM me.

Cheers Thor

Welcome to the forum mate

Glad you enjoyed the thread. Pretty awesome effort reading the whole thing, there's a fair bit chit chat between the posts there is also a cut down version that which covers the build without the fillers

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...&highlight=100

Glad to hear you are looking to buy a 335
They are going pretty cheap these days and a great bfb if you can find one under 100K

First decision is sedan, convertible or coupe, manual or auto?
Second decision is if you want a stock (blank canvas) or modded 335 (where someone has already spent the money for you)

Don't go older then 2008, E9x of this year and above, have numerous improvements and features not found in the 2006 and 2007 models.
Jury is out for me on preLCI vs LCI (facelift model) which sported a different hood and stuff, but others can chime in here if there are significant advantages, (other then LCI cars being younger of course)

Common problems on the N54 engine are the water pump, the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) and rattling/smoking turbos (which means they will need to be replaced sooner rather then later). If you can find one that has had these replaced all the better

Other then that, you can go in any direction you like. Cosmetic mods (M3 panels etc) Interior mods (pedals, LED lighting etc) or Go Fast Mods (MHD tune, down pipes, dual cone intakes etc). If I had my time again I would stick with stock turbos and a decent tune rather then spending 000s on aftermarket twins. TBH the gains are great but not worth the dollars imo.

Most important is find a good local indy shop or do as much DIY as you can, its not as hard as you may think The guys here on the forum are a great bunch and always happy to help out and share their expertise

RealOEM is the best web site to look up part numbers, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select
Is easy to use and super handy, we use it all the time

Also start with the Aussie classifieds on this forum, when looking for parts, it is the best way to pick up a bargain. If you cant find what you are looking for post up a WTB (wanted to buy) and someone might have what you need in their shed.

Finally, start up your own build thread and share your story with the community... looking forward reading about your new whip and following what you do with it...

Once again welcome to the forum mate

Thanks for that info brother!!

Well I'm on the lookout for a black coupe, preferably manual and hopefully with some mods but not fussed if stock car. My logic is if the car has full service history and is around 130k most of the maintenance things like water pump and HPFP so on would of been fixed already. Now my budget is also a governing factor if I'll be able to buy 07 or 08-09 model however they do pop up within my price range but trade off is higher k's which again not an issue if the car has been looked after.

I'm all about functionality and handling, my previous cars taught me if its factory and it works well don't change it just for the sake of changing it, only if it's going to improve my car it then I change stuff.

First my car has to handle like its on rails, stop and have good rubber before power mods start. As for the performance mods I'll just go FBO but it will happen is stages and hopefully I get a hold of that Dinan intake you had my god that this is sexy!!

Basically I'm like you, don't care what dyno number is hit as long as the overall car is very responsive and it handles well, that is all I care about.

Sorry to high jack your post and btw I love even the small talk on the builds

No worries mate... If you are looking for handling the mods M3 bits, diff lock down kit a decent alignment is what you need...
My suspension mods include:

M3 strut brace
Mfactory LSD
Diff lock down kit
KW3 coilovers
Dinan camber plates
M3 front and rear control arms
Megan Racing rear control arms
Front and rear M3 sway bars
Nolathane rear sub-frame bushings

Sticks to the road and corners like its on tram tracks

Keep us posted

Picked up a beater to get around in, when we do the manual conversion after Vince gets settled into his new pad

1997 Daewoo Cielo CL, 1.5L 3 speed auto, 55 kW, 127 Nm, 0-100 in 12.5 sec

Not sure about the modding potential but passed the roadworthy with nothing to fix. Not bad for $700

Don’think it will be my daily, it’s woefully underpowered and rolls like a boat going around corners. But will get me to work and back while Gary is off the road which is more often then not atm

I'm taking bets on how long it takes Socks to start modding the daewoo.
My money is on 5 seconds after he realises that it's a 1.5 and therefore uses one n54 turbo.....VTL on the phone in 3.....2.....1

Hey Socket , just want to let you know I got my car running this week. The spool of these efr7670 is amazing, actually better than the my old stock twins with the worn out wastegate!

In the process of getting it dialed in a bit. Hopefully we can get it on the dyno for additional tuning later this week.

Just some logs of the base tune in case you are interested.
