The design life of the modern automobile is at least 150,000 miles and 10 years following the recommended maintenance, meaning you should be able to give it minimum care and expect this amount of service. There are certainly many variables and variances above and below that and as others have posted, a interested owner can make their car can last much longer.
I made a Porsche 928 last over 220,000 miles and 15 years but incurred many expensive repairs that would have had most other owners selling. With that particular car, and given the repairs were always much less than buying something else, I felt it was worth the investment. It really comes down to your tolerance for repair bills and a bit of luck! |

With the typical male, that is about 2 minutes...

Snide answer back:
Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer, no need to get snippy about your own vague question. More legitimate answer: It is impossible to do anything beyond speculate on that question; there are simply too many variables here. With proper care, feeding, and $$ spent you could keep the car running well for several hundred thousand miles...or the car gets hit and run totaled next week. So long as you care for it with proper PM and stay ahead of issues it will last as long as you have patience for it to last. My dad owned a MB he finally sold with nearly 300k, the body rust was what finally made him move to a newer MB. Had that car not been in New England it might still be running. |

i wasn't trying to be rude to the responder, but it just seemed like he only read the title of my question and not the rest of it. and many other helpful people responded to my question so its not an impossible question.

I work at a BMW dealership and a Tech here has my old 89' 325i and it has 340k on it with the original drivetrain and even a/c compressor that still works. In fact the head has never been taken off, and it uses less oil than some new BMWs.

bump didn't want to start a new thread....any word on guys with over 70k miles on their 335? I'm looking at an '07 with 78k miles for $16,800 CPO Sport/Premium Package. So major issues I'm seeing are HPFP (this is covered right??), Fuel Pump (also at the dealers expense?) and what about the turbos? Is 78k too many miles..keep in mind my 330xi has 88k and it's still kicking. Would it be a better investment to get a 335? ANY information will help! really considering it..

Plus, if you have CPO, it will cover the major problems. You will not have to worry about anything.

I saw one on cars.com that had like 225k miles. Search the 335 and filter by highest mileage first. There are a lot of these cars in the 1xxk mile range. Can't vouch for how well they're running though. These posts pop up a lot. Don't believe the nay-sayers, theses cars can go the distance.
Your's still has plenty of life in it.

should be forever
There are folks with 1970's and 1980's BMWs, so that's 30-40 yrs. why wouldn't a 335 last that long? It's built like a tank, unlike some of the newer cars...

A CPO'd vehicle also receives an inspection from BMW (forgot how many points). You will also get BMW Assist etc. CPO is most useful for mechanical breakdowns since they will cover you right away.

throw enough money at maintaining your car (or any other car) and it will last forever.
the better questions to ask is: How long can my car last if I plan to spend < $x amount in maintenance per year? ('x' is the amount of money you are willing to spend). Quote:
