Take the head and oilpan to your local engine rebuilder/ machine shop and get them to put them in the dunk tank. They'll come out all sparkly clean and since you're rebuilding the head you won't have to worry about the seals.

This is a good idea. And if they have sonic wave cleaning capability it would be even better.

How on earth has it not come apart? Does he drive it gently or something?

An N52 I saw like that, where the owners daughter was "trying to see how fast it'd go" and it was clear the oil wasn't changed in at least 35k, threw *something* through the oil pan.

Umm that is what the owner thought on this engine.. Soon that will be true electrical engine are the destroying anything gas powered...
