I also work for BMW here in NYC. I've sold cars for over 9 years and I enjoy doing it-especially dealing with people and the challenge-also the $$$ is not that bad either . I always thought that reaching a luxury line/high line is what I worked so hard to get to after all these years-but IMO its the same daily grind-only difference is-you just have to kiss ass more-cause on top of selling the car-you also have your customer service index you have to worry about-its a salesman's report card with BMW. To me I can make a great living selling BMW,Acura,Honda,Hyundai,Kia-without forgetting the fact that without customers-we as car salesmen/women cannnot make a good living. I treat all my customers with the same respect that I expect to be treated-and I would go that extra distance-just to make that customer remember me and my dealership.
IMO,if you are a car salesman and you know what you are doing-anybody can make over $100k easy. When I used to work for Acura-my sales mgr. hired his friend that had no previous sales exp.-let alone car sales-long story short-his first year,he made over $130k and all he did was listen to the sales mgr, worked the deal and followed up. Now he's a sales mgr for the same dealership-making twice the $$$.
Also location is important also-you can work for BMW,but if your location is not right-then you are not going to make the big $$$ that other sales people claim they make per year. Also with the allocation that BMW gives each dealership-also makes a determining factor as to how many cars a dealership gets to sell. So if you have no allocation and just working on an order per order basis-if you are starting up your career as a salesman for BMW-it gets discouraging if all you are selling are ordered/in-transit cars. So you actually have to wait for it to be delivered/burning gas to get paid.
When it comes to pricing-I do my best to get the fairest pricing possible-without "ripping off" the customer. I got into this business to make money-not to lose money. But I dont play games-when I deal with customers-especially repeat customers, I give them the best and fairest price that I can. Please keep in mind-on top of the infamous invoice price that everyone sees on the internet-there are also a lot of hidden costs that gets put on top of that price. Most of the car dealers call it a "pack". Its a certain amount of $$ that gets tacked on top of the invoice that basically is sure money for the dealership-it may pay for mechanics that service/gas/detail the vehicle. So that "pack" also makes a BIG factor in your profit from selling the car. My dealership has a unfair "pack"-but thats a different story-LOL
There are days where you just get the customer from hell or sales managers that just treat their salespeople like crap-that's the nature of this business. If you want to get into car sales-you just have to have thick skin, dont bring your personal problems to work, stay positive and have patience.
We have a saying-"You are only as good as your last month" which is so true.
Well I hope this helps-but if you have any other questions feel free to PM me and ill try to answer it the best I can.

Yeah, I heard the apartment size a bit bigger than my bathroom costs more than $5000/month.

You're in the wrong dealership,my friend!! Come move out here to NYC and you will make more than that-with the amount of cars you do.

11 car a month average or 20 car a month average? Only 90k?

Margins in Audi's suck. What's worse, is that the person cross-shopping a BMW with a good deal has more of a discount than the Audi. In order for the Audi dealer to match the BMW deal they have to lose money... not that it matters to the customer. The gross in the $73k RS4 we just sold at sticker (2 the same day) was only $5k.

You should look at another dealer's payplan with the numbers you are putting out. At my store you would easily make over $100k on the low end of your average. On the upper end, close to $200k. We only work five days a week in high-line.

I'm being conservative with my actual pay/hrs as CA.
$120k/2200hrs= $55 hr
Plus excellent benefits med/dental/401 etc. (also see my garage).
I am not repaying student loans. Which puts the PE example below in the red for many years. The first year at BMW I made $100k.
I was 23, living in San diego at the time. I was in Vegas every weekend.

Now..let's talk about engineering working for government agency..
PE(Professional Engineer) with 6 years out of school working at City of Los Angeles building and safety department. His base salary is $78k/year. That's 78k/2080hr = $37/hr. PLUS excellent benefit. New grad around here (median housing price $380k) make around $55-60k.

I couldn't live on 55-60k. That was baller money when I was in the Marine Corps. I averaged $12k a year. Not much pay, but they gave me a grenade launcher and a lot of ammunition. Saw the world like they promised too.

From my perspective.. BMW Sales/ Marine Corps=tie. Professional Engineer made the podium, but still last place in this comparison.

Hoorah!
