Drill a small hole somewhere inconspicuous and measure it, or a concrete guy can measure it. You can always cut the floor where the lift will sit and make 3'x3' pads for it to sit on (bolt into).

Agreed, there's very few car "gimicks" these days that haven't already been done. Which is why a lot of manufacturers are going for things like putting out the same old car with new curvy sheet metal.

Food dispenser seat? Im still waiting on a car that can become a manual and the clutch pedal pops out. You can only shift when you press the clutch in. And the it comes with a H pattern shifter. Once u press the auto button. The clutch pedal goes back into the toebox away from your foot and the H pattern shifter illuminates PRND and the other two patterns are Eco and Sport. But right when you press the manual button the third pedal comes back out and the shifter goes back to 123456

You mean the Model 3's seat-fart app doesn't make you want to buy one?

Car commercials in the Integra days actually talked about the car and the perks of getting theirs over competitors; Integras were absolutely fantastic cars too.

Other than apple carplay/android auto I haven't heard a thing in years actually about the car. Its some video of some lifestyle

Maybe I want to drive my car on some freshly groomed gravel, the commercial lets me know it's OK to do that.

When I'm driving my BMWs I'm driving them. Not so much worried about connectivity and convenience FWIW. We are lucky enough to have other cars for that so that alters my perspective is suppose.

My favorite safety feature of the e90 is the rear seatbelt tensioners.
They are automatically triggered and used in the event of a car accident.
The rest of the safety features seem pretty standard on most cars built around the E90 era and newer. Not a fan of the BST, so I’ve coded that out in all of my bmws.

One thing I’ve not seen yet posted is the dme’s ability to sense the engine may be damaged and it will put you into limp mode.
I’ve ruined 2 Toyota engines due to over heating, have never ruined a bmw engine.

The n5x is a reliable engine with proper care/maintenance.
The only part I can think of failing and leaving you stranded on the road is a failed alternator. Even then, it can be easily changed with a few simple tools.

It’s reliability and safety is what makes me want to drive it and keep it.
I’m more afraid of a tire going flat and having no spare than something going wrong with the engine.
Only thing that bothers is the lack of Bluetooth audio in most of them.

I used to really have a thing for Fieros...what a great concept that was just tripped up by mid 80's domestic manufacturer execution.

Big fan of the MR2s are well...they seem to have held up better than the Fieros...

My older brother bought a new 2M4 in 1984 when they first were introduced. He was all over it since GM announced the the Fiero a few years earlier. He even drove down from DC to the IIHS facility in Ruckersville, VA to get a glimpse of it when it was being crash tested in 1983 or so. I was in manufacturing engineering school at the time and a member of the student branch of SAE, so I was studying how GM designed it and manufactured it. I still think it is the best automobile architecture yet devised. The Fireo is most noted for introducing plastic body panels that were not fiberglass (that was the Corvette LOL). Sheet Molded Compound, now widely used for a lot of automotive designs, was first pioneered with the Fireo. The mass-production "spaceframe" concept was also pioneered by the Fiero. The production tooling for the frame was masterful engineering.

GM being GM of course, and coming out of a shitty economy in the 1970's, turned the intent of the Fireo from a mid-engined sports car to a low-cost high-MPG commuter car. That re-direction by GM management caused the need for engineering compromise and the program ended up using the front-end of the Citation for the rear engine cradle and suspension, and the Chevette front-end for the front-end of the Fireo (in late '85 it got its own front suspension design). The GM corporate Iron Duke was the base engine and the oil sump was not well thought out. Get the engine low on oil and it would hole the engine block, throw oil on the hot exhaust manifold, and catch fire. GM redesigned the oil pan to solve the issue. As all cars in the 1980's, the interior was cheap and made to just hide all the workings underneath. Yet, despite all the jokes about the car, it was quite advanced for its time (design-wise) and spawned the Saturn car company and the GM U-Body platform for the Pontiac Trans Sport and Chevy Lumina and Olds Silhouette minivans.

In the era it was made it was a fun car to drive; I got a lot of seat time behind the wheel of my bothers copy. Small, light weight, and tossable. But as typical GM, in 1986 once they got the Fireo "right" they canned it.

Sorry Fiero geek here...

Thanks for the history lesson. I’d read some about the iron duke and the oil fire issues. It’s a real shame because it would have been an amazing car with a quad4...

Like you said...right when they got the car right it was killed by the bean counters. What a shame because it was such a cool concept. I still remember tje first time I saw one...it was bright yellow and I saw it out the window of the school bus in 3rd grade. I had a buddy in high school who had one...it was only 10 years old but completely at deaths door...a victim of 80s build quality...

FWIW I have an unhealthy obsession with Porsche 914s to going back too one that my grandpa had when I was 12...I really just kinda have a thing for oddball cars...
