EGR error codes

Hi I have the following codes and EML light on dash

4CAE - egr adjuster position sensor signal

40D4 - egr Valve position control

Going on the codes do I just need to replace the EGR valve?

(Not keen on getting it removed)

Thanks in advance!

Does the car run a bit crap? If so maybe the EGR is caked in soot and the valve is left open slightly which would constantly let in exhaust fumes.

It also could be a vacuum issue, on the EGR valve you will see a rubber hose, this hose applies vacuum to open the valve, if this is split it won't function properly.

Can you take a pic of the egr valve? You may be able to check its operation without even taking it off the engine. Also there's a test routine in ISTAD which actuates the egr valve so you can see it operating.

Because you don't also have a MAF code, I think your valve might be dead, and replacement might be the only option. Definitely worth testing first, and cleaning if that seems like it might be the problem

What would a maf code suggest?

Maf code alongside an egr code would suggest that the egr is simply stuck open or stuck closed...therefore just needing a clean to get it working again.

I also have error 4CAE, I changed the egr valve(wahler) and still have this error. I saw the by-pass valve on the cooler blocked and I clean it and now it works perfectly. I put the cooler back and clear all fault code. Still have error 4CAE and check engine. I run a diag with ISTA and EGR VALVE works perfectly.... give me some ideas I`m stuck with this problem.

I'd check continuity between the egr plug wires and their respective targets. If that all works out, I'd check resistance between each of them and ground, with the DDE unplugged. Firstly though, I'd inspect as much of the wiring as is visible for any damage etc.

4CAE

I have the same problem. The by-pass valve at the egr cooler was blocked, I replaced the cooler, I cleaned the EGR valve (it was not blocked) ... the same error (4CAE) after deletion.
I will replace "Pressure Converter, exhaust control" code 11747810831

Egr error codes

Morning all. My BMW e90 was running rough and had engine management light on so with Carly adapter I managed to read the codes which were 004B84, 003FF0, 0040E9, 004B82, 004B81. I then had a garage replace the brake vacuum sensor and EGR valve. I then reran the Carly and I now have the codes 004AFB, 0040E9 and 004B82.

Does this mean the new EGR valve and the brake vacuum sensors are faulty? Car runs much much better, no engine management light either.

Your help will be much appreciated.
Thank you
