Yepp as I said in my previous post regarding this, after installing a tuning box that only changes fuel pressures/?timing we trial Dynoed (rolling roaded) the car at the different settings available on the tuning box dial. Results were mixed and inconsistent with some settings giving temperamental idle speeds, so I don't recommend tuning boxes despite the fact that mine is still plugged in. I feel after much discussion with my friends at BMR, Advan and Pulse that an open ECU Dyno based reflash or a stage 2/3 tuningbox inputting multiple channels like turbo pressures, fuel, timing etc would be much better and more likely to achieve closer results to Mr Singh's. Though from what I have seen and heard, even multi-channel tuning boxes only yield modest gains. Therefore, a Dyno based tune is the best option. Trouble is such a thing is not yet readily available here in Oz.

What numbers has Mr Singh achieved?
Anyone know? And with what modifications?

As my signature might reveal, I have done some more modifications than you, and I totally agree that a box tune is not the way to go.
What I have learned in the process of my tuning, is also that there are very BIG difference in how the power is delivered.

I started out with a tune done by feeling and not so much from experience, and without the use of a rolling road.

I then turned to a company in Belgium, where they did know quite a few things about tuning. That tune did a very big difference and the car is now much better and much nicer to drive.

Thats epic!
Cant wait for my DPF to be gone
Did anyone for accurete how much newtons the manual box can handle?

And if I want to the drivetrain (or anything that handles the power) what need to be changed? More rings to the clutch? New flywheel, new transmission (anything to upgrade without changing everything?)?

I Think you can find the numbers at homepage of the company producing the tranny.
I know ZF is making the aut transmission. I dont know if they also make the manual one.

I have a friend here in Denmark with a 335i with over 550hp and over 700nm. He's changed the flywheel and clutch to a stage3(?) from horsepower freaks. And that works!!

On page 3 of this thread Mr Singh posted a Dyno results page of before and after tuning stating gains of 290Hp and 500Ftlbs or about 670Nm. These are pretty good gains. I can only assume this was done with a proper open ecu Dyno tune. I may be very mistaken though... I vaguely recall seeing some quite spectacular results (I think approaching 700+Nm) from a tune by 'Evolve' tuning in the UK with the car owner boasting 0.8G pulls in second gear!!!. I'm not sure if Mr Singh was affiliated with them.

You are lucky you have your car in Belgium. I am from London myself and am always surprised about the wide choice of tuning options people have in Europe. Here in Oz the options are very limited and progress is slow in this regard.

I know what you meab about how the car drives. I've learnt from tuning my Subaru. This was a massive project involving slinging two TD04 turbos onto a N/A flat six. The way the power is delivered is crucial. My Subaru was very linear and easy to live with everyday despite delivering 336.2Kw at all four wheels and some estimated 1000+Nm of torque. And that linearity was achieved on the Dyno by a highly experienced tuner. Hence my affinity for Dyno tuning besides the power gains.

Currently I think my best bet is waiting on my pals at BMRAW to get tuning equipment that will allow them to Dyno tune my car. I will keep this thread posted if anything happens.

@demobboss
Well, I actually drove the aprox 650km to Belgium to get my car mapped.
Since I changed the intercooler and turbo and removed DPF, I could not find any one here in Denmark that could map it. And by coincidence I found a user here on the board from Belgium that have the same modifications who adviced me to go there.
Which I really not regret.
The point being, if you can't find anyone in your area then take a roadtrip to go to some one who does a Prof job. Not saying go to Belgium, but go where ever they know what they are doing :-)

Thats great advice actually. Much thanks. I will consider it carefully, as there is an outfit about a days drive north from me who may have Dyno tuned these engines before. I'll be calling them in the mornning.

Bumping an old thread! (Sorry) - But wondering if any of you 330d owners are still alive out there!

Picked up a 2012 330d in October of last year - 20,000k, very clean.

Currently no mods to it, but it comes out of warranty as of Feb, so i definitely want to look at doing some work to it!

I bought a 2011 330d E93 LCI late last year, standard except for the winter wheels I have on there at the moment. Very happy with it, heaters / heated seats means I can drive about with the roof down when it's freezing outside

I have a 335d LCI (2010) and DMS did my remap. Evolve also offer decent remaps for the LCI and have done for a few years. I would be very surprised if these 2 companies cannot do the 330d LCI

Hi Peeps
Just come across this thread and thought Id join in. Hope you dont mind.

Had my E91 330D LCI MSport Auto for 6 years - no major issues over 50K miles. Hope thats not the kiss of death.

Its remapped. Lowered on Eibach Pros with Bilstein B4S shocks. Had a custom suspension setup to SZP settings with K-mac bushes on the rear and removal of front strut top mount pins. Tarox brake pads on standard disks.
I didnt go for a really stiff setup as its my daily drive and the roads in UK are looking more like the Somme every day. So it has to be relaxing to drive to work as well as being fun. However, it goes very well and handles even better round corners - had heap of fun at Nurburging.
Im considering a transmission remap but they are expensive and only very recently available in the UK.

Considering its got nearly 300BHP I think the 36mpg (uk gallons) is amazing especially as I dont hang about on my cross country commute to work (14 junctions in 10 miles).

330d JBD install HELP!

Hi All,

I have a 330d E92 LCI 2012.

I have purchased the JBD piggyback tuner but I am unable to find an install guide for the 330d.

Has anyone installed one and could take a picture so I am able to determine which plug I am meant to connect it too?

I have attached a picture of which plug i think it is but I am not 100% sure.

Thank you,

Michael
