Electronic oil Gauge unreliable?

I have noticed a decline of oil in the engine first is was ¾ full then ½ full and then ¼ full. I have been told that I will be alerted when I need to add a litre of new oil.
It been at ¼ full for a few month now. I checked the electronic oil gauge today and its gone back up to ¾ full again. (I have just over the 6,000 miles.)

As anyone else experience this with their 335I engines( N54). I have read on this forum that I can expect needing to add a litre of oil every 6,000 miles so I am really surprised of this

Is it still in warranty? I would be back at the dealer telling them to check it out..... It shouldn't be soo variable IMHO.

The gauge only measures the top 1 litre of oil, so you're only talking of a variance of ~750ml. Still sounds odd though.
