2011 Jerez Black M3 detailed...

This Jerez Black M3 was purchased recently, but unfortunately the paint had not exactly been treated with care during the short 15K miles this vehicle has been on the road. I put a plan together, and together with my friend Flex, Menzerna, Uber and Swissvax, we bought it back from the dead.

Owner had dropped the car off the day previous, and this is how I was greeted early this morning.

I had my camera on the wrong setting, so all pictures I took inside look a bit strange. But hopefully this shows how dirty and dull the paint was.

Very dull paint.

Ready for her wash.

Tackling the wheels first. All you need right here.

Plenty of dirt in there.

Washed the M3 with Chemical Guys Citrus Wash 'n Gloss.

Under the lights (and after stripping everything that was on the paint), you could really see the damage.

It had been a while since I've had to deal with RIDS like this.

Most of the car was done using yellow and green Uber pads.

Look at all the dirt I was pulling from the paint.

After a few hours, all polishing was done.

All done. LSP was Swissvax Insignix v1.

Did you clay before polishing? I've never seen dirt come out of the paint like that from polishing, but I always clay first.

Strange thing is that the test spots I did didn't result in the clay coming back with any contamination, but the yellow pad/FG400 sure did. Either way, the paint was super smooth afterwards.

Maybe you needed a more aggressive clay?

Looking back, I should have washed, then clayed, then washed again, then steamed the paint, then done Iron-X, then clayed again, then washed, then polished, then an IPA wipe down, then clay again, then wash it again, then polish it again, then wash it, then clay it, another IPA wipe down followed by Iron-X and then wax it.

Easy, the car came out great! It looks fantastic. SHEEDl is probably as surprised as you are that the clay didn't show any contamination.

In my opinion paint cleaner is a waste of time unless you're applying something like cquartz after polishing.

IronX is a hell of a product though
