P0171, P0174 and P00BC - 2009 E92 328i

Hi, I am getting all these 3 errors after changing valve cover.

Previously my BMW idle rpm was jumping by 100rpm so I took it to repair shop, they noticed leaking valve gasket, they have replaced all valve cover and gasket. After that I am getting these errors. They said I need to replace MAF. I bought new MAF still did not solve the issue.

Does any one know what could be the issue? Maybe someone had this issue?

Please help

Did they also replace all the valvetronic gaskets (like eccentric shaft sensor)? Could be a vacuum leak, issue with fuel delivery like fuel filter or fuel pump, could have clogged injectors.

I will ask tomorrow in repair shop did they change all valvetronic gaskets as well.
I think its vacuum leak, but in repair shop they are telling that they did not find it. So not sure what to do next.

This whole issue started after changing valve cover gasket + valvetronic gasket. All was fine. After one month I noticed small shaking and rpm fluctuation. Valve cover gasket was leaking oil, so I thought its vacuum leak. As I wrote above I took back to repair shop and they changed valve cover and gasket and MAF... And now car shakes even much more... In higher rpm range it seems to be smooth. Rpm fluctuates on idle. car shakes most on startups.

so I would assume its a vacuum leak? just repair shop cant find it?

P00BC - could this code be generated if there would be injector issue?

Yes, the issue was valve cover gasket. In auto repair shop they put it without sealer. Second time they added sealer and engine works nicer now. Still having small jumping rpm on idle but it is much smaller and no error codes. I guess they still left "micro" holes?

Is it common to add sealer for valve cover gasket?

I guess I will wait and see if gasket with sealer will hold for some time. And for the next time I will go to different auto repair shop.

Check with a BMW scanner, they sale for like $60 on amazon, some codes are shadow codes that will not turn on the check engine. When i had my P0174 and p0171 it was the lowest stream o2 sensor.

Some people add seals on spots so gasket doesn’t roll while they put the cover back on but if they properly replace all gaskets (4 piece valve cover, eccentric shaft servo and eccentric shaft sensor) you should not have any problems.

I got a cable and read errors with INPA. What do these errors tell? What should I do about them?

Do you find out the problem is for your car? I am getting the same issue as your situation now after I replace my gasket.

The issue for those 3 codes were bad installation of the gasket and/or leak in gasket cover. After adding sealer on gasket and using new gasket cover, codes are gone.

How ever tiny RPM jumping (rough idle) is still there (No error codes). Few repair shops did all engine tests and said that my engine is perfect... I even ordered vacuum leak test and it turn out to be ok... They said that its inline 6, and its normal to vibrate a bit... I still think something "micro" is wrong and giving this rough idle... but no one can find it, spent a lot of money and found nothing. So learned to live with it, I just increased Idle RPM and its smoother now...
