Professional radio - ?usb

I known eyes lots of threads about USB retro fitting and it's something I'm looking into.
Just have a quick question.
I have the pro radio and idrive (CCC) on a 56plate e92
Do all pro radios have the connections for USB on the back? I have blutooth but not sure if it's the stereo or desperate module

How do I find out other than removing stereo to have a look?

If I have the connection on the back is it a case of just buying a cable, arm rest socket etc?

Before ~2010, the USB and bluetooth were handled by an external box in the boot.

On a 56plate car you've probably got a "MULF1" in the boot, which only does bluetooth. Thats what mine had, (though i dont have idrive which might be different?)

Mine was faulty, so i replaced it with a MULF2 from a newer car, needs a few tweaks but fits pretty easily, and once thats installed you can recode to add the USB function and install the port and cable.

I did a write up about installing a MULF2, you can have a search and find it. Also lift your boot carpet up and see if you've got a MULF1 under there or something else.

And that is a nightmare to get working with USB... Many threads on the audio forum with no clear answers so it would be great if you could post your link Aragorn30d

To OP it's not too bad to remove. Dead easy with plastic removal tools. Have a look at the back of yours. If you have a black quad lock then aim to replace the unit with one that has USB built in and has a black quad lock..

You see the back of this one? http://bmwrecambios.es/epages/eb9733...ts/65129258173 it has the grey USB connector port between the Connection to the aerial and the Bluetooth antenna.

If you have a blue quad lock then aim to get a blue one.

The best way is by probably sourcing a revision 3 head unit I.e. From a LCI BMW. The revision 3 unit will give you better sound and may be an easier install.

You can find a few on evil bay by searching for something like 'bmw professional radio USB.'

Price was they start at around 300 but you never know where you may find a deal.

That USB port on the back is what you want and from there you can add a wire to place the connection in your arm rest or glove box. Whatever change you make it will also need coding to the vehicle.

My thread is here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1126467

I've not got the USB working yet, mainly because i've not purchased the connector for the console, i'll update the thread once i complete the USB install with instructions on that part as well.

I suspect the only tricky bit might be coding, but we'll see what happens when i get there.
