Oil Consumption?

I bought my car as a CPO about 10K miles ago, and I assume the oild was tip top then. Yesterday I got a warning that my oil was low, and I that I need to add 1 quart. I would find it odd to burn through a quart of oil in 10K miles, but for all I know it might not have been topped off when I got it. Is this normal oil consumtion for an N54?

I'm wondering the same thing. Mine was at the full mark when I bought it 4k miles ago and it was already down between half and low, so I topped it off again. Seems like a lot of oil to be going through.

Mine consumes oil and I only have 10k on my motor. I don't think its uncommon for this engine to consume a quart of oil between oil changes.

I really wish bmw gave us back the dipstick. I hate checking the oil through the idrive because i don't really trust it.

Mine consumes oil as well. I wouldn't assume a cpo car was topped off - mine was cpo and the oil light turned on the day I bought it after about a 60 mile drive.

1 quart in 10k miles isn't bad. I had a ls1 since new and it used 3/4 quart of oil every thousand miles( dealer said it was within spec, so basicly normal). Dealer said if it got to over a quart every thousand they would do something.

I change the oil every 7500 miles. I've never had to top off the oil although I do see the oil go down from FULL to 3/4 on the oil level graph.

^^ same here. When i say my car burns oil i only meant that i see my oil level go from max to 3/4 full but never to the point where the car tells me i need to add oil.

Nope.avi

My properly worn in ring/crosshatch mating means that my oil sensor reads absolutely no change whatsoever between 5-7.5k OCI.
