So my water pump just hit the fan.. I was able to wait a 20-30 minutes and keep going since I only was like 3 km away from home.
Where do I get the best price for the pump and I heard it is recommended to change the thermostat at the same time ? The car was about to get stored too next week so I'm probably going to wait until spring to fix it. |

I ordered my thermostat for 80 from there just the water pump has this back track for the order I checked last week and it said item available Nov 5th now 25th ugh -__- will call them to find out when I can order it. Good luck with your work buddy. I was stuck 40km away from home when it happened I had to stop every time the light came on and let it cool for 20 30 minutes. Took me 4 hours to get home -_- this should be a recall !

dreading this happening to me, just got the car and its at 94k and I know it should go any moment now
anyways, if you're doing it yourself then get it from getbmwparts.com they have a wp + tstat kit for 475 probably the cheapest so far https://www.getbmwparts.com/partloca...catalogid=4462 EDIT: looks like they only ship stateside, hopefully you have a forwarding service or are going to buffalo in the near future to pick it up, luckily, there's someone at work that makes biweekly trips to pick up parts from buffalo so I have them get my parts Last edited by maxgohan; 10-27-2014 at 02:19 PM.. |

I believe the new design pumps are made by Continental. Mine crapped out a week ago. I got the OEM pump, BMW coolant, OEM thermostat, and a Delphi temp sensor all for $440 on eBay. I have yet to install it all, but it took about 1.5 hours to remove everything.

Waterpump finally died a couple days ago. Took about 5 hrs to replace. I'm still getting 2E83 "Waterpump Low Power" after driving it around, but the pump seems to function fine in that it's not overheating anymore. Are you guys getting persistent codes with the VDO pump?

BMW should pay for half the cost. Who has ever heard of a water pump failing at 80,000km. The reason is due to crappy design. They used plastic impellers. The new water pumps now use aluminum impellers.
