330i N53 Clutch / Flywheel

Hi everyone,

My clutch has seemingly started slipping in 3rd and 4th (probably 5th and 6th too) so I'm looking for options. I'm not after a crazy clutch, OEM would be good or a reputable brand that isn't too expensive and I'd like a lightened Flywheel if possible if anybody can recommend.

And from what I can work out I have a dual mass flywheel, is it worth going single?

Will be doing the job "myself" which means watching a mechanic friend do most of the work.

If anybody has any pointers I will greatly appreciate.

My advice (based on my indy) is go OEM. He's seen lightened flywheels overstress the crankshaft, causing damage...

Weird as I would've thought a lightened flywheel would put less stress on the crankshaft, but Im not expert.

Quoted £280 after asking for a clutch kit from cotswald, but I'm waiting to find out what it comes with.

Dual mass is designed to reduce / absorb torsional vibration in the crankshaft. Going lightened = going solid = losing the vibration damping = potential troubles.
Petrol are less severe than Diesel in terms of crankshaft vibration so you might have less trouble than a solid conversion in a diesel. Engine will rev up quicker with a lighter flywheel but have 'shorter legs' when going up gradients. Also the idle might not be as smooth at the same rpm.

You might be right. When I thought about it some more, what my indy was commenting on was replacing a dual mass flywheel with single.
