Bigger brakes for E90 320D with 17" wheels?

I'm thinking I should rebuild my callipers but was wondering if I could fit bigger brakes for maybe stronger feeling brakes. Any suggestions? What would be an upgrade?

You could use 330d brakes with 17 inch wheels.

Looking on Real OEM 330D has the same brake disc size as 320D. Except for the late 2007 cars the size of the disc goes up. Is it the LCI 330D with the bigger disc?

I always thought all 330d had bigger brakes as you could never run 16 inch alloys on them due to the bigger brakes even on E46's.

I have a 325d which is 2009 and LCI it has the 330d brakes which I think are around 30mm bigger in diameter than the 320d.

EBC do some pretty good upgrade kits using better discs and pads than standard but same size. Your not really going to get massive power from a 320d to warrant big brakes are you?

That's probably what I will do. Yellowstuff pads with OEM discs. Like you said, kinda pointless getting big brakes on a 320d.

What size are the discs on your 320d?

The 330d either uses 330mm (most common) or 348mm front discs, the 320d ones are smaller, either 300mm or 312mm depending on the age of the car.

My current 330d is a late 2010 / 60 plate car and has 330mm fronts, my old 330d was a 2006 / 56 plate and also had 330mm fronts.

Are your 17" wheels genuine BMW? BMW 335i/d came with 348mm discs with big calipers. And I've seen them behind 17" wheels.

I don't know for a fact but RealOEM says my fronts are 330. I do know for a fact that the rear ones are 300.

I wouldn't necessarily rely on RealOEM. Best way is take your wheel off and measure the disc, then you'll know for sure what size it is. I dont think BMW ever fitted 330mm discs to 320d's.

I would be very surprised if they were 330mm

For a 2006 320d saloon realoem shows 300mm x 24mm for front discs, anything with larger is special application, such as a police car.

You right. It's done in a confusing way.

My 2006 330d came to me with 17” wheels and had 348mm brakes. My sons lci 330d had 336mm (is it?) anyway, the smaller ones so it seems very random which brakes came with which 330d.

It's definitely random and not many came with 348mm ones, most are 330mm, still can't work out why some got bigger brakes!

Was your 2006 car an E92?

True, I run 17” as my winters on my 335i and my wife’s 328i with 335i brake retrofit.

I'm 99% certain you'll have the larger brakes being an N47 LCI car, but it is marked on the caliper so if you take a wheel off you can confirm.

My 2010 320d runs 312mm front and 300mm rear. The ex-police cars run larger brake discs. ECP shows them as "government vehicles".
