I mean, it won't hurt anything, especially if your battery is marginal. But I have flashed many, many cars and never needed a charger. Your battery shouldn't go dead from the ignition being on for 1-3 minutes, if it does, you probably need a new battery anyway. Also, you can turn off HVAC, the stereo, lights, and idrive screen if you have it to save the battery. I wonder how many people try to flash with everything left on?

I just turn every light, idrive screen, sound and everything off.

But I don't have very high expectations out of people lol, when I worked at Autozone in highschool we had a girl make a scene about having to replace her battery twice in a few months.. then found out she would sit in the car with the ac blasting and radio on with the engine off regularly

in some cases you don't know how long it will take.

I hit the button on a TCU flash thinking it would take a few minutes.

2 hours later.......

but it was already hooked up to the power supply, because I like not worrying about it.

I kill all of the ancillary stuff even when it's hooked to a power supply.

I've flashed on the way to work on the side of the road. Initial tune went rough for a bit so rather than dealing with that, flashed it back for the commute, hehe.

so a hundred miles in.

not sure if it shifts faster.
definitely firmer
the behavior is more aggressive though with holding a lower gear longer after hard acceleration and downshifting on hard decel to use engine braking.

it's definitely and improvement.
of course, mine still had software from 2007 in it, so anything may be an imrpovement.

It's hard to know really. Unless you're a top tier auto manufacturer, I doubt there are any reliable benchmarks.

I mean, it was free and relatively easy to do. So the real question is do you like it more or less?

It is noticeably better. Not a huge difference but a good one. It's moderate changes that completely turn the car up a few notches. Now what I'm left wondering is if all the 330i gm transmission tunes are the same or if they vary for the better or worse depending on the vehicle

it's definitely better as far as general behavior and picking an appropriate gear.

just setting the stage for realistic expectations.

It's not XHP on a ZF.

but it is markedly better than what it was before.

1-3 minutes? When I flashed my transmission a few weeks ago it took a good 20-25mins. Does your batch tune flash faster or something?

Unless you're flashing the whole thing (program and calibration) I don't see how it would take 25 minutes?

yeah, the calibrations are much faster because they are smaller and don't have as many sectors to erase and write. the DME, for example, should take less than 1 minute to flash.

All you need is a PC, WinKFP and a Bimmergeeks cable. The file is free to download.

So just running the .bat file in the 3.0SI .zip will pretty much take care of it like the 3IM? Nice.

Hmm, to wait for this weekend or not....

Thanks for making this available.

so if a guy were to do the full program update, would have to reflash the new calibration file in order to keep the 330ish software?

I should probably update my junk.

you mean like updates on the whole car? I wouldn't do that personally, or if you wanted to, do it before you flash any modified files or upgrades. It's not like BMW is releasing new calibrations for these cars anymore.

Or are you talking about the DME/TCU? AFAIK there's only one program on the TCU, and you can't change to a different one on the DME without undoing the RSA delete, so it would be pointless.

but more broadly, yes, if you do a full car update it will erase anything you've done so far.

What's your project id?

It looks like there is another program. I'll make sure it's listed first so you can make sure you have it before doing the trans flash.

No, you don't need to do that. The RSA Delete is only for the DME - which controls the engine, not the transmission.

I think I need to add some more explanations/help since TCU flashes are likely to become more popular. Looking at the downloads, 328i flashes are by far the most popular, and probably 90% of those have been automatics. But it's not clear to most people which is which..

I think most people have no idea they can even access the transmission file by changing the ecu to gm 1912.
