has anyone ever used any with good results? i was thinking about trying some sort of additive before my next oil change to clean some crap out. i know liqui molly makes one that is supposed to break up varnish and sludge but has anyone ever used such a thing?

I flushed the engine during my last oil-change (at 140k - kilometers). N53B30 (EU specs) engine.
Poured a dose of Millers Oils Engine Flush, let it idle for 20min, then drained, refilled with noname flushing oil, let it idle half an hour again, drained, and filled up with fresh Millers Oils nano EE 5W-40. Oil filter done, too. Driven some 5thousand kms since, no issues whatsoever. Would not speculate of its positive effects, I simply wanted to have it done. |

I wouldn't use a "flush". That stuff is scary.
If things are really dirty, I'd use a high-quality Group V Ester-based oil and only keep it in for 3-5K miles. Motul 300v and Redline are probably your best bets. If it comes out filthy after 3-5K miles, I'd run a second cycle. Just be prepared to pay a premium for the Ester-based oils.... |
