Looking forward to seeing what happens with the BMS tune.

Will the BT basic cable do it? Which BT cable did u ordered?

I ordered the basic version. For tuning purposes the version doesn't matter, because all BT cables have the same micro-can2 chipset and the BB tool is not vin locked.

I am interested as well, has anyone played around with this?
what would be the pros/cons vs the tablet?

Regards

Here's a quick list off the top of my head.

Pros:
  • Not VIN locked
  • Cheaper ($179 for Bavarian Technic Basic kit vs $395 intro price for the tablet)
  • Actually "open", Terry posted the source code on n54tech.com
Cons:
  • Needs a laptop
  • Tablet has arguably better vendor support
  • Tablet also functions as a diagnostic/logging tool

I read that they flashed their N52. Would love to see some XDF's.

They flashed their E92. They used file definitions from DimSport which are available around if you look hard enough. Dyno gains were similar to the PBX so I don't think they have plans to release a flash. Maybe a supporting flash fro the PBX one day. But anyone can read/flash their N52 for free using the posted software.

Thanks for replying Mike. I think the best option now is to wait for Shiv to release his OTS tune.

Bit disappointed that Terry & co don't intend to release their tune, but hey they need to sell the PBX. But for less than $200 you can get the BT cable plus the ability to tune as many cars as you please. It's a no-brainer.

Shiv already released his OFT unit/tune - I have it on my N51

There are a couple threads in this section about it...

Very nice & worth the $399 introductory price

Just to clarify I was referring to the actual definition files. At the moment I believe he is only emailing customers the tuned version of their original bin (feel free to send me yours ). The OFT is no doubt a top-notch product. I got the BT cable over an OFT, because I wanted to tune both my e60 535i and e90.

Sorry, you are correct, the actual XDF files have not been released/posted on his site - we just received the tuned versions of our stock DME file by email

OFT can be reprogrammed via the template files on the site to run on either N/A applications or the N54.

Now, if you're talking about tuning more than just one car, yes you would need 2 units since they are married to which ever car they are written to until you reset the unit.

I've never tuned before, so I'm still a little unclear.

This doesn't require any other hardware than the BT cable?

Correct, though at the moment there are no free xdf's or tuned bin files for the 328i.

This unit does NOT require the BT cable - the tablet has it's own cable to link between the unit & your OBD port - no other hardware required at all

The OFT is complete/self contained and all you need as far as hardware goes...

Tablet? I'm planning on using a BT cable and my laptop.

Just noticed that the source code for the BB flash was taken down over on the n54tech forum, so I'm reuploading it for anyone who might find it useful/interesting.
