Then before spending big bucks on the cat,I would replace the injector first and it's not that expensive.There should be no crystallization on the tip.It means injector is not spraying properly.Actually you should have replaced the injector even before spending money on nox sensors.
But again that's how I would so please make your decision accordingly and don't take my word. |

I bought this car 2 month ago and I even can't get a title, tired and disappointed what do... today is the first day when I find an idea sell it to the hell... it has some strange behavior of the Gearbox too... it kicks\tugs when it switch from the 2 to 3 gear... Now I have to take all risks into account and decide what to do, but I guess that I can check metering\injector one more time and if it is crystallized again - replace it, if it's non crystallized - means it sprays good...

it sprays well, it is exactly how it PASS the ISTA test, it sprayed certain amount of DEF into the can and then I put it on the weights and it shown proper\correct numbers.

More important is quantity of the injection.I believe there is a test plan for measuring the injected urea.You can only see/diagnose bu removing it and running the e engine to activate the injector.

From the results of the System test you can see (look after the "Marker regeneration status: 13"), that:
NOX before CAT: 78,47 ppm NOX after CAT: 45,53 ppm I guess it means that DEF+CAT reduces almost half of the NOX emissions... but probably that this "half" is not good enough... and that is why it throws the "4D16 SRC System, efficiency" code Checking the BlueBook value, just in case... |

What I find curious is that the EGT before DOC is lower than EGT before DPF. And even slightly lower than before the SCR in both of the measurements of the test you had ran. Pre-DOC EGT should be higher than Pre-DPF and definitely Pre-SCR.

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature
DOC = Diesel Oxidative Catalyst (in the same housing as DPF (diesel particulate filter) but upstream) |

You data shows EGTs at #1 lower than EGTs at #2 and even #9. To me it's strange as, unless you are at regeneration stage, upstream EGT should be higher.
Names are a bit different though. I think ISTA calls #1 as pre-DOC, #2 as post-DOC/pre-DPF and #9 as post-DPF/pre-SCR |

I will keep an eye on it, but it is probably because of the way how it is perform the system test, it is warm up the system and then do it is measurement after it starts cooling down, so in that way EGT should cool down first... but if that is not true, it means some of the sensors are wrong\defective?

This has no effect on SCR I believe - it appears the SCR catalyst on the OP car can no longer convert NOx efficiently enough. |

Where did you get this car from? You need to be in contact with the previous owner unless you bought it as a salvage title, non op, or out of state. In California the seller is responsible for the car passing the smog test and under the law you can spend whatever it takes to get the car to pass smog and the seller would have to reimburse you. Personally if I was looking at spending a bunch to get the car to pass smog I would let the seller know there is an issue and that they would be on the hook for it, you can either proceed with an agreement from the seller or have them buy it back.
