A better question is "how stock do these headers look". if they look close to stock, a smog tech may not notice (or care) and just test your car anyway.
I think there's an afe label right at the beginning of the header. Maybe find some way to cut and weld a bmw stamp and spray the whole header with vht header paint and let the 2 years of driving in between smog to make it look stock.....I would.

Op I need a sound bit/videos of your set up. Dyno is going to help out purchasing one, unless you want to sell yours.

Bringing up an old thread, but I have the afe mid pipes along with the BMW PE installed currently, and I'm on the verge of buying the afe headers since I need to replace my cats anyway (codes 29F5 and 29F4). I hate drone and it's pretty non existent with the setup I have now, but love the crackles and pops though. I just had a question for you since you already have the same exact setup I plan on having. Do you have a lot of drone with your setup? I don't want to shoot myself in the head on long drives listening to drone in the cabin. That rice a roni sheit isn't for me and if you think the drone is just too much, I may just stick with OEM. Any advice would be much appreciated bro. Thanks.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on these headers. I was really trying not to especially with a $1400-$1500 price point. I did a google search and found them for $1146 shipped!!!!!

I will be installing them myself. I'll make sure to write a good review along with my current bolt on setup and AA tune.

All done!!!!!

IT IS LOUD paired with the afe mid-pipes.
I'm hoping it will settle down a bit... if not I'll have to deal with it.

Reset lambda values, air fuel, IM

I can't wait to feel the difference after some miles put on.[IMG][/IMG]

I'm new to BMW but not at all new to building cars, I recently purchased an 07 328i coupe, 6 speed manual. PO gave me every receipt since it was new, exceptionally clean car and very well maintained. I bought a 3 stage manifold this morning and just bought a magnaflow catback about 30 minutes ago online. I've also deleted the carbon filter and installed the silicone intake hose. I'm considering the AFE headers but cannot stand the drone(I'm 51) but I am looking for some hp gains, I don't need to squeak out every HP I can but looking to get the car a little more responsive, I'm more of a corner guy than a straight line guy. Because if you can corner well you can out run a guy with more HP imho. Given what I have what would any of you do? Delete the secondary cats? Resonator? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Absolutely impressed with the car. Ken

I also plan on installing them myself. I've had a wrench in my hand since I was 8 and do everything I'm able to myself. About the only thing I won't do is go into a transmission, nope leave that one to the pros!

Delete the secondairies and leave the stock exhaust in place, OR keep them and add your magnaflow. The next best upgrades are the MILvs and a Tune like BPC.

+1 on tune for responsiveness...
that slight noticeable lag when you get on the accelerator is annoying
