compass stuck on SE
title pretty much says it all - the rearview mirror compass is stuck on SE. noticed it out of the blue yesterday. the compass in iDrive still works fine.
has this happened to anyone else? any thoughts or suggestions? i'm out of warranty now, so "take it to the dealer" is a last resort. thanks, dave |

+1.
But if you really find nothing after you've circled the earth many times going SE, try the following: look under the mirror and locate a recessed area which is about 1/8" wide. There is a 'reset button' for the compass, so use a ball point pen, push and hold the button for about 10 seconds until a "C" comes up. After that, drive your car in circle, clockwise, and slowly (< 8 mph). After one circle or two you should see the compass has been calibrated. Tim |

Nope. Started the car today, seemed to be working ok, and then began hanging on directions again (not necessarily SE this time) after a few minutes.
So I did the calibration thing, but no luck. Rearview compass is still off again within minutes. It's basically very slow to notice direction changes, and is still usually off, sometimes completely (N instead of S, etc). The spinning "North" arrow in iDrive is still working perfectly, as is the map (direction of travel). It's amazing, I hit 50,000 miles two weeks ago, and it's been problem after problem since. I know it's a cliche to say that, but it's truly uncanny how shit has started happening immediately after the warranty ended. Will keep you all posted, thanks for all the help and advice. If anyone has any more ideas, please share. Cheers, Dave PS - no holy grail or pot of gold to the SE yet either. |
