Need advice with rubbing!
So I got HR sports springs installed this weekend, and I have some rubbing in the rear. 220m wheels: 19x9.5 et 23 rear. 275/30/19 sumitomo htr zIII. Already rolled the fenders. -2.7 rear camber
I don't think going down to 265/30/19 will get rid of the rubbing, and I don't want to put on 255s because I don't want to put 225s in the front. It rubs where the fender meets the bumper. Rubbing on the fender and the bumper... Any suggestions? Thanks to Dave (dave96dcm) for all of his help! Fender roll, springs installation, alignment. |

If there's a machine shop in your city you might see if they can "SAFELY" machine 5mm off the mounting surface of the wheel without compromising strength. I know for a fact my 19" AluFelgen wheels use the same casting for ET30 and ET35, one is just milled/machined more. It's a long shot and I did capitalize SAFELY...

I never had wheels machined before so I'm not sure about that one. I'll probably do some research and see if anyone is having any problems. I feel like it'll compromise strength, but like I said I have no idea. Worth a shot though.
I'm trying to find a body shop that's willing to shave the fenders and the bumper but so far every body shop I've been to said no. Maybe I can do it myself. I found one place that does custom body work: http://www.extremerodandcustom.com/hcr/ I'm going to stop by today to see if they can help. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think -3.2 is the max camber I can get. Need to get that done, definitely. Thanks guys, I appreciate all the help! |

This is the thread #Tee was talking about. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=814434 Great looking car and nice wheel setup. By the way it might also help if you go with 265/30/19.

Looks like my only hope is more camber and 265s or 255s. Let me know if I'm wrong with my assumptions, this is my first bmw so I'm not very experienced. |

I'm a machinist. I could cut anything you want off those. I have 220m on my e92, not lowered, on 265, and it doesn't rub. I was going to remove some material if mine didn't fit but they did. There is plenty of stock on the back of those 23 offset to cut safely

View post on imgur.com View post on imgur.com I wouldn't recommend pulling the fenders, like you said it will look stupid, because the bumper wont be flush with fender anymore. Yeah, narrower tyre probably is good choice. Try to add max negative camber and 265/30, then maybe cut the piece of that bracket away. Your 19x9.5 et23 is the same as 9.5 et15 on pre-lci. I know you don't want to go with 255/30/19, because then you need to change the front to 225/35/19. If you go with that setup i would add 10mm spacer to front. Here is pre-lci E91 with 9.5 et16 and 255/30 rolled fenders and no rubbing. http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/420...0406130759.jpg http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/8...0406130720.jpg http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/615/20130406130714.jpg http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3...4071730431.jpg

on a serious note tho the easiest way would be to go down in tire sizes, if the rims are staggered there is no reason why you need to go two sizes down. Go to 255s on the rear and 235/245s on the front. |

You're thinking too much. I would def do 265 30 19 on the rears. I know discount tire will return the tires for free before 30 days. Go with something the stretches like the falken.
My setup used to be 20x10 w/ 285/30/20 with falken I forgot which tire. I rolled my fenders and would barely rub with 5 passengers. No camber. All meat. You have an LCI so it will be different. |

Yes, definitely. I need to change the front springs anyway, I don't like the reverse rake. I'll get the camber out of the way at the same time. Maybe the camber will be enough anyway. Thanks guys! I will post pictures with updates!

I've decided to put my winters on to get rid of the rubbing. When it's time to put summers back on, I'll increase the negative camber and hopefully I can save enough money to buy kw v1s. I think if I raise the rear a little bit, I can get rid of the rubbing.
Thanks for all the help guys! |

Where'd my VTEC go?

Set it to ZERO toe in the rear with max camber. That will give you a little bit more space than just camber alone. Mine max'd at -2.8 with 0 rear toe.

This is going to sound ridiculous and I'm not gonna advise anyone to do the same if they have rubbing issues, but I got so pissed about the rubbing that I stopped slowing down for bumps. I'm not speeding or anything, but if the speed limit is 40, I drive over the bumps going 40 if it looks like I won't bottom out or scrape. Believe it or not the rubbing decreased incredibly So far it only rubs on highway speeds. No cracks or bends and everything seems the same on the outside. I need to take the tires out and check what changed. Last edited by b-man; 10-10-2013 at 07:07 AM.. |
