Golf tee mod

Has anyone done this and is there any performance gains with a tune and power increase on stock setup or is it basically only for a little louder exhaust note at lower rpms?

there is no performance gains with golf tee, only changes exhaust note on start up. and is mechanically there to "heat up cats" or what something. some say even throws a code but no CEL, id plug in before going to dealership though. takes 10 seconds

It will throw a shadow code if you unplug the relay for the actuator in the trunk, no code if you plug the vacuum line or control it via piggyback. It's there in the dme if you read it otherwise no cel.
I open and close it regularly depending on time of day. Closed early mornings and late nights via jb4
I also notice slight lag with it closed. Not much.

Thanks guys. I didn't think there would be any performance gains, but wasn't too sure. I have it unplugged now and get a little more drone in the cabin while cruising, but the exhaust note does sound a bit better all around imo. I'll be taking it in for warranty this coming week and will plug it back in for that.

Nope. You may be the first one to do this. Let us know what happens. And post a sound clip. Haha jk man. No gains. Slightly louder at startup. And you will have two dirty exhaust tips vs just one.

Theres also a little hose sticking out of the drivers side exhaust (black rubber hose), fold it and put zip tie around it, then drive. This opens both pipes, no codes.

I had to do this bc my exhaust flap was rattling. Fixed and sounds nice... win win.

Sorry, I didn't see the search function....Or I just didn't look close enough. I wasn't seeing sarcasm with that comment, just being a smart a**.

Trust me, I know A LOT about turbo cars. I also have a 800+ whp Honda S2000 (currently hold the record on stock bottom end) and can be found on S2ki. I just don't know a lot about this car and it's quirky things.

Thanks for the heads up on the rubber hose on the exhaust; probably going to do it this way instead.

I used a small ball bearing to plug mine. Search and you will find the thread that explains it more. Also there is the size ball bearing needed

*hint- i dont use the search function on this site. I google whatever it is and end it with e90. then google pulls up all the results from e90post.com and other forums

I used a surgical hose clamp inside the panel in the trunk.
Easy to reverse.

Yes sir.....800 whp on a dynojet (about 925 crank) It's been at this power for over a year and I do have a built head, just the bottom end is stock so I can prove it and keep the record. Granted I don't dig race it because the stock trans won't handle it for long (already stripped 3rd gear out on one), but I do a lot of 30 mph roll racing. I'm in the process of upgrading to the FullRace sidewinder manifold and new Precision 6466 turbo and going to push the stock block to near 900 whp. I already have the Nissan 300zx diff conversion and will be installing the Getrag supra trans conversion soon. Will be hitting the drag strip much more often when I do this. The F20c engine in the S is unbelievably strong. Bought the car new in early 03 and turbo'ed it at 3000 miles, it now has 16k on it. It's a garage queen, but is beat on pretty good on the weekends. If you'd like to see it to believe it, you can go to S2ki.com and search my name (spoolin). Been on there for 9 years and very well respected. There are many stock blocks in the 500+ whp arena with no problems. Not one has ever broken a rod or anything when it was tuned correctly.

I'd like to do some things like this with the 335i, but it being my daily driver, I'll probably just leave it stock with a good 93 or e85 tune. Who knows how long that will last though since this car is a blast to drive also. LOL

Fun cars man, but money pits if you want to make big power. LOL If you stick with around 500 to 600 whp in them, it won't cost near as much, but you have to do it right the first time and I believe thats why my engine has lasted this long. I've always run AMSoil in it too and I am a big believer in their oil products since they retain high ZDDP and have a TBN of 12.1.

This is a list of most mods and I have well over $50k in it with purchase of car new and have a lot more to go, so you can see how much of a money pit it really is. LOL

-FullRace twin scroll sidewinder manifold and 3" DP, T4 twin scroll Precision 6466sp turbo, AEM EMS, AEM boost solenoid, AEM 5 bar MAP sensor, Innovate XD-1 standalone wideband O2, ID2200cc injectors, Full Blown twin Walbro 340 fuel pump setup, twin Tial MVS 38mm wastegates, Tial Q BOV, OEM HG with L19 headstuds (11:1 CR and stock block), Supertech built head, CC Twin clutch, UR 3" dual exhaust, InlinePro 300zx diff. conversion, InlinePro 800 hp intercooler, custom 18" IForged Aero wheels with 285 BFG DR's out back. Getrag tranny conversion and more boost coming soon.
