Replacing mesh/lattice pieces on front bumper

Not sure what these things are called, but they are on the lower aspect of the front bumper. I do a lot of highway driving and road debris keeps flying into these things and either cracking them or making holes through them. The last time the middle one broke I paid almost $70 to get the replacement piece (for the 2009 328i) which is a rip off because and its really just a cheap piece of plastic. One of the pieces on the right side is broken again. Would like to replace them all with something made of hardier material. Where can I get this?

Use mesh from a old security door
Need a diamond tip cutter to cut out the section you need
Paint it black before installing
The benefits are that it will be impossible to break and thieves wont be able to break in and steal your intercooler
