Just got a walnut blast done, will adding an oil catch can prevent buildup at all?

Simple question, walnut blast is recommended every 50k ... if I install a catch can, will that slow buildup in anyway?

Meaning is there any way at all that 70k with a catch can would like like 50k without a catch can for example?

Only if you run dual catch cans and plug the head.

Look at BMS for high side and mishimoto / rb turbo external pcv for low side.

Would you mind explaining how this works?

I was planning on mishimoto, and then I’ve heard about the RB PCV valve, so how do they actually run together?

How does the flow actually change?

Does the RB valve not allow oil down a certain path? And then the catch can contains the flow?

build up in inevitable with a DI only engine. It will just delay it a bit.

Definitely get the rb style pcv valve.

You may be better off just using the money you'd spend on a catch can for another walnut blast - doesn't catch much.

You really need to do the rb modification which includes removing the valve cover and tapping some holes. If you aren't comfortable doing this then I wouldn't bother with catch cans.

I don’t understand the placements yet.

For simplicity i would likely do a mishimoto can. What’s that considered?

I don’t see how it wouldn’t help.

I have a burger catch can and an RB pcv valve. I pulled my intake off last week after a year since and its just as clean now as it was right after it was cleaned. I always have tons of oil in my catch can, but none in my intake anymore.

Depends how you set it up but if you had the hose from the pcv line to catch can and back to rear inlet, it would be considered "high side".

I have no say on the valves yet but would imagine they still get some build up without the head ports being plugged.

I was quoted 1000 lol. Plan to get it done locally at a home shop later, haven't asked about price but I believe 300-400 is the going rate in the area.

You guys are in 2 totally different states... shop rates are probably different. Cost of living, tools, and technicians are all factors in pricing.

That's also why you can buy a car in a small rural state and sell it in Miami or California for more money.

I called around. Some ppl were nuts. $400 is a regular price. Anything more is gouging. Anything less is a slight deal

About every 1,000 miles at this rate, as I seem to be under the hood all the time replacing parts and upgrading things.

I installed a RB PCV valve, cap & Mishimoto Catch Can two years ago in April after I did a walnut blasting.

I plan on doing another walnut blasting this spring. I will post pictures etc., of the intake valves prior to cleaning them.
