Crank but no start
Model: 2005 E90 320i sedan
I have a crank and no start issue, code reading gives me both canshaft position sensors error, tested both and both say they are working, pulled valve cover off and timing chain is seated just fine with no guide breakd and plenty tension so i highly doubt it jumped a tooth? What can i check next? There were acouple other codes (very unclear) to do with management so possible ECU issue? |

1) What actual codes (provide numbers) do you read (either P-codes or BMW FCs)? What DEFINITION of each code does your scan tool/ software give? What Scan Tool/ Software are you using to read codes or do diagnostics? 2) If your tool gives Freeze Frame Data, at what mileage/km was each code saved, and what is current mileage/km? 3) Did vehicle operate normally, with NO SES light or other warning light, last time it ran? 4) How long after last run to point of crank -- NO start? 5) When it cranks, is it at normal cranking RPM, and WITHOUT any change in RPM, sputter, or attempt to fire? From my interpretation of what you have posted thus far, you have an electrical fault in a sensor or its associated wiring/ connector, such as the Cam Position Sensor. NOT sure about your particular engine and its Engine Management System, but most will NOT fire without proper signal from either or both Crankshaft Sensor and/or Cam Position Sensor, as that signal is necessary to time injector pulse & ignition timing. No signal results in crank but NO spark or fueling. As already suggested, confirm fuel delivery to rail first. Please let us know what you find, George |

Okay done a bit in the last days, confirmed.
I have fuel and Spark, i even tried putting a little fuel down each cylinder but no fire in this case. I bought the car not running and maybe twice since i got it i had 2 tiny single piston igniting the fuel replaced the valvetronic motor as thats what my friends snap-on professional code reader had an issue resetting it. No change to it starting. It also said all camshaft sensors are fine. So i have fuel, spark, and everything inbetween just i havr no fully confirmed this timing so im not sure how to make sure its in time. The valvetronic motor i cant seem to hear working either, i unplugged the two plugson the front of the block like my friend said for the valvetronic to just change the setting to closed valve with both motors that i now have but still did nothing. I guess i just need to know how to confirm the timing? |

Update: Set a direct current to the valvetronic motor, and reversed the polarity to get it to do a start with it both fully opened and closed, still no fire. Starting to lean heavily towards 3 things, no compression but i highly doubt, timing, but would have to be way out for it to not even fire. And last maybe a sensor thats not coming up as faulty.
