"problems" with rain sensing wiper function
First off my rain sensing wiper function does work. My car is an e90 '06 that has 52,xxx miles and I currently live in Hawaii. The problem is that this function does not work very well as while using the function the wipers simply don't wipe as fast as they should. I always have the function on its highest setting/sensitivity. Even on high it needs to be wiped long before it does its self. I have deposits on all my windows and paint. I believe it's "hard water" Could this be the problem? (I'm thinking it is) I'm comparing this to my other car ( '12 e92 m3) which this function works better with no complaints. (while driving this car I use the lowest setting/sensitivity and wipes the window clear perfectly)
If it is hard water does anyone know of a method or product to remove this effectively? note: I do not own a buffer nor have access to one. |

Sounds like you should invest in a dual action orbiting polisher and correct both the glass and your paint. You don't have to spend hundreds if you can't afford it. Harbor Freight actually makes a decent one for around $70. With it you can easily correct the glass by using a felt pad and glass polishing compound and your wipers will work far better afterwards as well.

I also had a similar problem on a replaced windshield. I reinitialized the sensor using the Bavarian Technic tool and it started working properly again.

Thanks a lot guys! A polisher of some sort is defiantly on my list to buy. I wasn't expecting this issue at all here.

For hard water deposits on glass, go to a marine supply store and buy 'teak brightner' which has phosphoric acid in it. Not a strong acid, you can apply to area of glass with hard water deposits with a sponge.
Not sure what the chemical content is, but you might also try C-L-R (calcium lime remover) Just don't drip it onto your paint, and flush immediately with water if you do. |

good to know about the reset. I thought it was just a stupid design. Neither of our E9x's wipe consistently, my windshield will be obviously covered in water and I have to hit the stalk to see. The regular speed function is too fast for most cases. why couldn't they have given us a regular intermittent option?
Neither car has water deposits on the glass though. it sounds like the sensitivity just gets out of wack after a while? or maybe there's a rock chip right where the sensor is or something. Actually, I still think it is kind of a stupid system. the wiper system in the E36 through the E46 was honestly a lot better. I always ran it at the lowest setting and let it do it's thing - perfect for the PNW drizzle.. Last edited by hassmaschine; 10-14-2015 at 08:26 AM.. |

Can you code the automatic wipers OFF and use the sensitivity switch as the intermittent delay adjust?
