I updated my cic, at the start it said something about an older version on my cic, I decided to update with 3x usb sticks and it updated to 2019-1
I have a lifetime code so it didn’t ask me for a code to install

No didn't even start, in fact on both sticks the files were deleted from the USB sticks!!

Does have a tick in the 'i' so a lot of people say that means USB update should work.
Did it even ask you for a map code? Nothing should be deleting contents of the stick, are you sure the sticks aren't the problem? A metal 32gb Kingston datatraveler se9 g2 usb3 stick is not much more than £10 and known good as I've used it myself if you want to try something else. Suggest you do a safe removal of the stick as well for peace of mind, had some weird things happen on occasion if you don't even though 99% of the time is fine just to rip it out...

Nope never got as far as code entry, deleted the directory contents on two memory sticks now.

Always do stick removal, so its not that.

Thanks for your offer.

The funny thing is I'm a software devloper and work with a team of USB experts, and I've personally worked with QNX which is the OS inside these systems!! You'd think I'd have a clue!!

As I said, something not right. Nothing should be deleting the files, should either recognise as map data and ask for a code or just do nothing at all

Hello, does anyone have a working link to a file download, the original to google-drive link doesnt work and the .zip file with torrent link no longer has seeders.

Or.... does anyone want to sell me their working USB stick(s)??!!

thanks!

I might have a stick somewhere but I can't believe there's no downloadable copy somewhere, keep the torrent running and maybe a seed will appear?

@undecided1 ok thanks i'll keep the torrent open hopefully a seed will appear but has been 2 days now! if not and you find your stick i'll definately be interested in buying it from you or at least sending you a stick to put the files onto. 👍 cheers.

Thumbs up

Sorry chaps, I just realized my mistake was trying to download at work where the network is blocked to torrents. on the DMZ it now down aok. Many thanks to undecided1 and mjn77 for the offers to help out prior.

Next question tho, reading-up on this post there is mention of a code its going to ask for and unless mine has the 'unlimited' version i can only assume it will ask for it - what do i need to do to obtain it? Or does this download come packed with one? Thanks again.

You’ll need to obtain a FSC if you don’t have a lifetime code.

Look in the ConnectedDrive area for options.

Ah ok.

How will i know if I have a lifetime code or not, before I insert the usb stick and start this update? Will it be in my owners pack or onboard the CIC somewhere? Thanks.

When the system starts to do the update....if the transfer starts, you don't need a code.

Bmw would never give you a lifetime code, if you have any warranty don't load one, stick to single use codes...

OK i'll stick it in and fingers crossed it wont ask for one!

What if it does ask, can i simply pull the usb stick out and/or turn the car off? It wont corrupt the existing install will it?

True, mine is 2013 but has extended warranty and I know some others have the bmw warranty on older cars. Bmw will just refuse claims if they find a lifetime code and once you've loaded it it's not easy to get out it would seem. I've always stuck to single use codes for that reason, not worth the risk to save a few seconds

Just realised i only have a 10gb USB can i quickly copy the USB1,2 and 3 when promoted to the usb stick and plug back in? or will it time out? i am worried it brick the idrive if it does one USB1 contents asks for USB2 and i dont copy in time from laptop to the usb stick

Suggest you get another stick. You can do in stages with a big gap between but if it restarts the update process it will still ask for them in turn (but then complete usb1, 2 etc immediately as it scans the stick and realised it has all the files already). Can't jump straight to usb3 for instance even if you already loaded USB 1 and 2 data. Can't damage it, maps are loaded separately then it swaps from old map to new map once complete (can use 2018-2 for instance as normal with usb1 of 2019-1 already loaded)

Its done!!

huge thanks to undecided1 and mjn77 for their assistance on this thread for starters.

In the end it was pretty easy to do the usb method. My CIC did in fact require an activation code; which was obtained from the 1tb.hex file and using the fsc keygen instructions from the post below, so thanks must go to portalseo aswell.
