Yes there are 3 for the headlights. I checked those plus I checked every other fuse in the fuse block with a test light and then an OHM meter.

I tested the plug at pin 3 and it isn't getting any voltage when the lights are turned on. Pin 3 is for the low beams & Xenons.

i talked to a friend of mine and we have come up with a decent explanation- WE COULD BE WRONG!!!!!! By not doing the Shutter Wire you committed a fatal mistake..... the shutter wire is not just for the shutter, it completes the whole voltage...therefore we think that you may have messed up your FRM aka footwell module due to the messed up voltage....the module should cost 250...

Maybe.......Well that would mean I could get the new one and not have an error code. That works for me.

The fuses would have blown if I burnt up wires. Also come to think of it the wire from the headlight goes straight to the fuse box and then out of the fuse box to the module, so I doubt I burnt up the module either. But I could be wrong.

Hey Jim, this is Alan, I just started my bimmer after parked for 2 weeks
same problem as you described, the passenger side xenon stay on for less than a minute, then goes off, when you start the engine again, lite up but goes off again...... WTF it wasn't doing it until today.
this make any sense to you?
Jay, you got to help us here. this could happen to you too....
you see a pattern, it goes off on the passenger side, why?

hey alan, id check all your connections, and everything, bulb, ballast, and do NOT turn on the lights, unless you are sure u did the shutter mod then you should be home free but seriously id take caution especially if you did not do the shutter wire...if you did then it should be fine cause we are really afraid of messed up footwell modules here...

guys this is a very common problem, ground issues or musta been the connectors and the connections, if nothing goes well perhaps the dealer is the only way to go...

How does the shutter wire cause it not to turn on? That wire doesn't go to the ballast. The power wire (pin 3) and the ground wire (pin 4) are the only ones that go to the ballast and thats the only thing that you need to power the xenons. Alan I would hook it up if you don't have it hooked up, but I seriously don't think it has anything to do with the problem. Check your connections. Why wasn't your car started for 2 weeks?

no people have been having problems with xenons and on then off tehn not turn on,the thing is that the shutter wire will complete the voltage...that wouldnt stop the light from working but it could damage other things, guys you must read the DIY it clearly says 2 wires doing 1 wire would be bad, and alanchan perhaps your connections were not good and they rusted should not have kept it unused all 2 weeks but as long as u got shutter wire u should be fine...

What do you mean it completes the voltage? Its not even powered until you turn on the high beams. If it was needed to to complete the voltage it would need to be a constant power.

i cant explain but it must be shutter wire in or else why would bmw have it there? instead of having it plugged in whenever you hit the high beams, they still have power coming on, i just respect the DIY and the ones who created it, perhaps , and no offense at all but perhaps you should have done the whole DIY instead of half of it? since i didnt write the DIY im not Mr.Xenon, im jsut a guy who has gotten all teh steps down good for the DIY and likes to help people.....

plus the whole Footwell thing is is theory, it could be true, it could be wrong, i dont know i talked with a friend with a e90 and we formulated this thing....and Alanchan-u should be fine all youre connections should be connect 2 to 3 5 and 6 jsut check the connectors, ballast, bulbs and prolly its the 2 weeks that the lights havent been on for 2 weeks and perhaps the butt splice connector is rusted or something, there should be no bad things happening if your connections are good and the shutter wire was done....

Jim and Jay,

I didn't do the install MOD myself, I paid someone (Bimmer specialist) for the work.
I print out the DIY instructions for him....and he followed carefully step by step to complete the work.
what really puzzle me is why only the passenger side goes off, why not the driver side?
I mean its the same wiring hookup for both sides......

I didn't drive my bimmer for 2 weeks because I was driving my SLK for the last bit of summer.

The only thing I can think of is temperature difference, put it this way, I had the euro xenon installed in summer and its hot, now is cooler, and my passenger side goes off.... This whole thing does not make any sense to me....
and sure its driving some of us nuts.
