335i e93 not engaging sports on dashboard

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a BMW 335i 2008 E93 M sport from a car dealer and when putting the car into DS mode by flicking the shifter to the side, the light on the PRND stick shows that the sports mode has been engaged, however the dashboard still shows D and not DS. The car also does not sound any different (i.e. the revs sound the same). Scouring the other threads shows how people had an issue where it would not go into DS or show the light on the stick. However my issue is it showing the light on the shifter but it does not show on the dashboard... Any advice?

Also I've attached an image of the shifter with it being in Park but the sports light showing too, is this normal?

Anyone got any ideas? Does this simply sound like a wiring problem in the shifter itself?
