Usually increasing duration moves the power curve and peaks further up in the rpm range. And increase in hp at higher rpm is usually at the expense of tq at the lower rpm.
Exactly.

The only reason there generally is a loss of power with increased duration is lack of cam phasing. Of courae, there is only so much that can be done when cams are keeping the valves open 2xx of rotation, but it helps.

On a fixed timing system - maybe (it depends a lot on the lsa). On a variable system, that isnt really true at all.

You think $350 is expensive for custom machined performance pieces for a BMW?

I'd expect someone who has the ability to run a CNC mill to appreciate the R&D that went into creating these.

Idk, 350 is a fair price, but if you have access to a cnc machine, and understand G code, a basic coding language, it may be worth it to find your own measurements and do it yourself. I'm not trying to come off as snobby, and I'm not insulting anyone who has already figured this out, I'm just throwing ideas out there lol

Will xxx hours of your time spent measuring, coding, and developing be worth saving the $350? Not to mention, you'd have peace of mind that those (^) MILVs are tried, tested, and widely used...

I hope the piston doesn’t encounter the valves with this arm chair engineering. Yikes.

Lmao, do you know if milvs make a difference with a 2 stage intake manifold?

Well, it likely would not be a compounded positive difference. It may be additive or subtractive in certain areas of the power band depending on resonances, etc..

power adders almost never act as 1+1=2. More like 1+1= 1.25 or 0.95 or 1 or...you the idea.

Oh yea I totally understand, but I'm talking about with a tune, I know they can add up to 10-15 hp and torque on a 3IM setup, but i wanna know if it will differ on a 2IM

Likely, but I'm not sure I would bother considering the 3SIM is the single largest power adder with the apropos tune. Unless you were going for a N54 intake manifold that makes all the power up high in the rev range.

What kind of tune is best for the 3IM

If you want to spend money, go with AA or Stage FP (formerly BPC). I tested both. Both are equally good, but Bob's tune does give slight more low end TQ and expandability for other addons, such as MILVs. However, AA's latest revision of the tune is really good, especially for the money. Bob's is about $650, while AA can be found on sale for about $400. There is also a free option from bimmerlabs. It flashes 330i tune on your 328.

My advice is: Unless you will be installing MILVs, go with AA.

Thanks, I follow bob on instagram, and I've contemplated his tune over anything else, cause of all the options, milvs, 3im, headers. I think his is probably the best, especially considering the fact that he has crazy experience with this engine
