haha sorry i'm not sure if there's a random Australian thread for things like these, but i was driving in Alexandria (Sydney) when parked on the side looked like what was a brand spanking new black M3. i thought it was because i could spot the M badge from a 100 meters back.
but the closer i got, i realised the diffuser's wrong and upon driving alongside it i saw that it had CSL reps, no bulging bonnet and no side air vents. the missus and i had a good laugh while driving off and she asked me to see if it was any of youse in here hehehehe... |

I have no interest in owning the new M3 at all. If I was buying another car at around the $175,000 mark, I would be choosing something else. Most likely a 911 (997).

I'm with you on that Captoz. As much as the M3 is special in it's own right, at $175K, a 911 has to be given some serious consideration. I have a customer who has a deposit down on a new M3 with M-DCT and only last week we discussed this very topic. He also agreed he would have prefered the 911 however in his case, he is carrrying many extra kilos around and felt more comfortable sitting in an M3 rather than the 911. His car with M-DCT won't arrive till June 2008.

that being said though, i dont think i'll ever buy one brand new. i just really dont see myself being able to justify paying a 6-digit figure for a car (as much as i really want to!!!!!) - hence the purchase of the 320i. if i were to ever upgrade to a higher model i would seriously consider all 2nd hand/ex-demo options before going the brand new route. just my personal thoughts |

I know SOMEONE will come in here and tell me i am wrong for having an opinion, but i am a bit disapointed in the new M3, and to be honest, i think the 335 looks nicer, not to mention the e46 M3...
The new M3 rear is bad, and the front - looks like it got a bump on the nose

I like Porsches, and I would likely buy one over the new M3 if money was coming out my ears... It's probably a better drive from what i have heard from people who own them, but for me, they don't have passion (nor does BMW though)

So my baby doesn't do it for you?
She does have a rather big nose, but I do like her child-bearing hips.
A 911 is quite a bit pricier than an M3. Even a vanilla one is about $40,000 more, and that is sans options. There is also $2000 more in stamp duty (in NSW anyway). Plus, buying a basic 911 raises the problem of how you will feel when a Carrera S, turbo, GT2, Carrera 4, etc. pull up next to you at the lights ... a problem the M3 doesn't really have. BTW: This is my first post here. I've been reading the BimmerPost forum for about 6 months and love it. Informative, friendly and very few trolls. |

Thanks guys,
No regrets in passing up the carbon fiber roof. It might look a bit more distinctive and provide slightly better weight distribution and handling, but a sunroof is more practical and enjoyable for every day motoring. |
