Reset transmission adaptations
I have an E90 LCI 330D with a ZF GA6HP26Z automatic transmission.
Anyone got procedures on how to reset the adaptations and perform the relearning process? I have searched and found nothing specific (or credible) enough. |

Hi,
Got the cable from Bimmer Geeks. the link below has the files for Ista+. https://mega.nz/#!a1wUmYCD!G0C3_Hsg9...o9uQ4EpxjI8oZs you will need a laptop, bought a $200 dell refurb dedicated laptop for this.Beware though, it's not a single click .exe file and some software competency is required. I can assist or someone else in this board if you hit any snags as I have found help here before. Tips to anyone having issues in Win7 sp1 ISTA install: -Make sure that BMW Standard tools is installed before you install ISTA -since windows 7 has .net framework 3.5 within it, download and install all the later versions - 4.0, 4.5, 4.51, 4.52, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, 4.7.2 |

TCM Adaptation (Relearn procedure) is required when the TCM, torque converter or mechanical repairs have been performed to set the baseline. As with the terminology used, adaptation, the transmission will continuously 'adapt' to driving style so it is not necessary to clear the offsets as the transmission will 'adapt' over time. |

I would personally advise against being obsessive about resets and recalibrations unless there is actually an issue or repairs have been done. I understand it is human to be curious but this is one of those things where it can get out of hand.
The adaptation reset in ISTA is mainly to do with the solenoid valves, the friction components inside and the ageing of the oil and the ageing of the solenoids themselves. Ken's ISTA instructions are great. I would add to take a photo or screenshot of the current values just for your records because the figures can give some insight to the health of the transmission. |

Thanks, but still wondering why?
Thanks for the reply, I understand all that but it still didnt explain why yours and mine have different trannys as we are both the same year. Could it be because mine came from Germany and not South Africa and other places that I have seen they have been built.?
