Grimmy, that's how you land a chick. Very valuable lesson to be learned here. I think Billy boy would back me on this magnificent mack strategy. Well played BMW F22.

Any other recommendations? A co-worker suggested Italy as a backpacking trip. It sounds fun but I don't think Italy would work as a soul-searching/laid back trip.

Where did you last see your soul? This would help greatly in determining where you might find it.

Italy is busy and loud and messy for the most part. Everyone there is stressed out because everyone works two jobs. Not a laid back place really.

No idea but I lost it so I need to find it. I picture myself sitting on a beach with a desk and a drink writing my business plan. lol

Dang, really? I thought everyone is pretty chill in Italy. I have only been to the Lake Como area so I'm not sure. But you pretty much confirmed my suspicion that Italy would be a bad place. Just saw on slickdeals that flights to Bali are cheap in April/May (right around my time frame). I'd like to explore all the options before picking one.

Lake Como is the exception to the rule. The further south you go the more intense everything becomes. Unless you have been there a handful of times and know how to "do as the Romans do" you'll constantly have North Africans trying to sell you fake designer stuff or hit you up for change. And there's just too much traffic and bustle to really relax IMHO.

I can't comment on Bali because I haven't been The more I hear about it the more tragic this becomes.

I've backpacked around Italy and I don't think it's what you want. That's more of a fun party trip for a college kid. It's not peaceful.
Still think Vietnam/ Bali sounds like a good combo for you. That would be cultural, scenic, peaceful and also affordable.

Yeah, sounds like that is the best choice. Trying to work something out at work so I could take 3-4 weeks off but for the life of me I can't get an answer from HR. Gaarrgg.

Just go to where ever bimmette tells you to and make sure she joins you. You might not find your soul but you might find a soul mate.

For me, I find my peace and soul every time I go to Vancouver.

I do have a suggestion tho if you like. Reunion Island is a beautiful and peaceful place to be. Only con is that they mostly only speak French. Google it and see. I consider it a little secret French island that not a lot of people know about. It's by far the best place I've had the honor of visiting and I've been around.

Inquiring minds want to know.
Sleep-EZ King size 3-layer latex, as recommended. Disappointing at first- too squishy and I'd wake up with a stiff back. Then I exchanged the soft layer for an extra firm. My side is bottom up, extra firm, medium, soft. Hers is medium, firm, extra firm. You can barely feel the seam. We both sleep great, and come sexy time the bounciness is great, along with being extra stable and quiet. I'd probably be almost as happy with a firm traditional mattress, but this was great and a great deal.

Bali is great and SUPER cheap. The local population seems to have zero concept that littering is bad though. I'd stay away from Kuta, and you definitely don't want to swim there- full of trash. I didn't get any further north than Ubud, but you also might want to check out Komodo and Gili Trawangan while you're in the neighborhood.

If you look on my old travel blog, adamandshawn.wordpress.com, you can read about Bali, Gili, and 19 other countries. Gili is great for cheap and interruption free. It's RUSTIC though.

Bimmette or Carve- how long do you guys think would be enough for me to explore and take in Bali? Would 4 to 5 days be too short or two weeks be too long?

It depends on if you're staying in one place. If you want serious relaxation without getting bored, I'd say 5-7 days in one place. 10-14 days if you're going to travel a bit within the island.

Not the cheapest, but my favorite country is probably New Zealand. I've been there twice and found it to be great solo destination. Recommenced the south island, places like Queenstown, Te Anu, Wanaka.

I am actually considering New Zealand. Seems like a very big place so I'm not sure if I could walk around everywhere. What I have gathered from people is that they usually go to NZ and then hit up Australia since it's right next door. Perhaps I should save that for the end of the year and do both.
