Apple CarPlay on CIC?

Has anyone managed to install Apple CarPlay onto CIC using 3rd party vendors?

From what I have seen, the only company so far offering this service is unichip. Anyone have any experience with them?

I would much rather go with proven company then some random 3rd party

Update: 2/7/2020
So just to update this for anyone searching for this info.
Joyeauto sells a retrofit unit for about $420 (at the time of this typing) which allows wireless full screen apple carplay integration with CIC units. The unit uses existing car functionality (controllers, screen, buttons) except for microphone.

https://www.joyeauto.com/product/bmw...face-retrofit/

And there is also another potential solution from Andream. They list their product as also offering wireless apple carplay with full screen.
https://www.android-car-dvd.com/coll...32066140438664

They list their system as supporting CIC systems on e60, f10, etc. However, they do not list e90 CIC. I am confused as to why they would not list e90 as CIC systems between e60 and e90 should be the same. This system also allows camera add on for about $15 for total cost of $300.

They have a separate android unit.

Another note: this unit also allows reverse camera add on for about $50. Apparently it is just a plug and play. With this features added to your car, it brings any e90 CIC equipped car into 2018 tech world

I understand that one can buy it. Found few vendors selling same products, but has anyone actually done it and how does it perform?

I mean you could retrofit an NBT EVO to your car but that will run $2,000 DIY.

I am talking with a few Chinese Manufactures about the Car Play emulators.

Yes I did with an Apple TV. You need a HDMI to composite converter, pin the audio to your audio in center council, pin the video to fbas1 or 2 on CIC and code TV into CIC with appropriate fbas values for video input. Best you can get is 480p. If you have hotspot on your phone bobs your uncle and you have TV and mirror. Oh yeah video in motion will be required.

But wouldn't that be just phone mirroring? Did you go guide on how to do it by any chance?

Read the last two sentences. If you have hotspot you can watch whatever you want....Netflix,HBO, Showtime, whatever channels you get through cable you will get on Apple TV. Mirror is a waste and I moved from Apple TV to Roku. IMSA app alone is worth it or YouTube etc......fbas 1 is my 6nr & fbas 2 is my roku. I did not make a write up as all the info is available here or *#%coding.com.

I like the idea but 480p kills it for me

Really? Because you're supposed to be driving and honestly the CID is not the biggest screen and I doubt your gonna be let down by the explosion scene on Deadpool 2 compared to a 60" TV at home lol.

I’d love to have CarPlay on my 2011 330xi. I would use it for maps and music, but I’m wary about spending a couple of hundred dollars on a box from China that nobody has tried as far as I can tell.

Do you have any DIY instructions how to do this on CIC?

No but I've included all the info in my post already. It's nothing more than the composite video in and L&R audio pushed into aux. code 601 into CIC and match the fbas for your video and done.

I was curious about this in 2015 and it wasn't possible then. 2009 e93 with CIC, and then I had the bluetooth upgrade (used to only receive calls, no media) as well as rear camera installed.

I also found the unichip online but some of their photos show as the UI being stretched and then videos i found were in chinese for installing, but like you, not really any feedback on how it all works.

Have you had any luck with your discussions with them about the Car Play emulators? I keep looking at this one and am waiting to see if anyone has taken the leap and tried it out yet:

They will not budge on the price. I am gearing up for an Evo retrofit so I lost interest.

Ah ok. I may take the leap then...my only other question was how to hook up a rear view camera to this box like it says in the description. Their customer service rep was pretty useless in answering that question.

So, I just came across this thread, and I thought that I might would chime in. I bought the unit from the seller on Ali Express and installed it a week or so ago. I'm trying to get a video made of the UI/UX, but if you guys have any specific questions, let me know. So far, I love it, the only thing I don't like is that when Siri speaks, the audio quality isn't the best, but that's kind of how all of the aftermarket ACP devices are.

Would def like a video/thread for this. I mainly want the integrated android music part as sick of doing it all from my phone and not being able to see music titles, etc..

Maybe you need an update to your CIC? My 2012 335is displays titles and I can change songs.

I've heard you need ICOM cable and that its a pain in the ass to update the CIC? I dont know if I need anything else like a combox or what, it's confusing.
