Hello,

So apparently bmw released the new iphone 5 USB adapter which I ordered from ECS part# 61122354478... My question is, would I be able to see my playlist on idrive?

Erm I can play my iPhone via iDrive with a plain ol' 10 dollar apple lightning cable. What is this "BMW iPhone cable" supposed to do above and beyond that?

I tried doing that, it don't work...
So I'm assuming the one from BMW will do the trick?

Do any functions work? Is that from ECS tuning? Do you have a link to the item?

I think the 2011 and above cars with idrive are able to connect with a regular usb cable. Mine is a 2010 and I have to use the y-cable in order for my ipod's playlist to display on idrive. If I plugged in a regular usb cable it won't recognize the device.

OP, did you previously connect your iphone to your car with just the regular usb cable? If so, then yeah it wouldn't work but you'll be good with the BMW y-cable. I don't have an iphone 5 so I don't know but I'm pretty certain that it would work perfectly fine if you just had the BMW y-cable + the 30 pin to lightning adapter.

The part number OP listed looks just like a charge cable, nothing like the Y with USB and AUX.

Nothing works if I use regular cable from Apple... The Y cable doesn't support the iphone 5's

I was just about to buy the lightning adaptor for my bmw Y cable, i will be surprised if this lightning to usb cable will actually play music from the iPod/iphone 5, let us know once you try it.

Found a similar cable like that on eBay from a US seller..

Please be noted USB & AUX ports will be required in vehicle for full functionality, volume control by steering wheel is still active but track selection and data sync isn't. You may also need to download the BMW 'App' from the apple app store to support iPhone 5 and iOS 7.

Track selection still works via iDrive.
