MAD and need a solution

My wife has a 335i sedan - artic/gray leather. I have told her numerous times that i dont like our 5 year old son eating "messy" stuff in the car, especailly when we have "light" interior colors and "light" carpet. I dont really stress it in my cars, cause i always seem to get dark interior with dark carpet. Get home today and she says - your gonna be mad, but we gotta problem with the car. I figured it was a technical issue...NOPE...i go to find KETCHUP stains in the GRAY CARPET!!!!!! I lost it before i knew it, because i have told her about him eating "crap" like that in the car. She said he didnt mean to drop it, i said yea im sure he didn't but the stain is still there. I have tried many things to get it out and the sad thing is that it aint MOVING!!! Its pretty much vacationing there for a while.

Do you guys know of anything that will help move the stain? Since it being a stain, it may be no hope. Then which i will get charged for it when i turn the vehicle in! DAMMMMMMMMMNIT!

Yeah. I'm as anal as the next guy, but i'm with Taittinger. I put my car over my girlfriend all the time, but my kid?

Go buy some resolve, shoot it at the stain, wait 2 minutes, wipe up, stain is gone. If that doesn't work (and i'm 95% sure it will), you can go to target and bout one of those steam vacuum cleaners.

What have you tried?

A few quick random thoughts-

Try soaking the stain with some VERY hot tap water- almost "boiling" hot. Let it sit for a minute and then agitate with your finger.
Try Fantastik or 409, again- spray on the spot and agitate with your finger.
Ideally, you should be sucking up that water, water/cleaner mixture with a shop vac.
Time to ditch the kid and kick that chick to the curb..... just kidding. Sorta.

I looked in the consumer reports book "how to clean practically anything." It doesn't list Ketchup, but it does list tomato sauce. It says to try in this order: 1. mild detergent, 2. ammonia and 3. vinegar.

Hope that helps.

I think he's mad cuz he already stressed the point multiple times. How mad would you be if you wife and kid thinks as if you are an idiot and play ignorant on stuff that you say?

u really ought to show them whose the boss around there.... not only that, need to enforce some discipline before your kid gets older and oh.... do other nastier stuff that wont' be as simple as a messed up carpet.

+1. I would be pissed if I stressed a point multiple times saying how important it was, and then to have someone ignore it. I mean, c'mon, people should show more respect and discipline.

You can just detail your car. The stain will be gone and your car will feel brand new again .

He's a kid. Kids make stains and ruin things, if your afraid its going to get ruined you shouldn't give a car YOU care about so much to your wife and have the kid sit in the back. Its her car and if shes fine with her son eating in the car then so be it. So just chill... the stain well go away

Jeez, good thing your kid didn't get sick in the car. Might have been Krakatoa right then and there.

Just relax, breathe, and invest in a good steam cleaner. You've got kids for crying out loud. These things will happen.

Its just a freaking car get over it.

On a side note kids never listen, I think parents are failing these days with the lack of physical reinforcement.

Then I read the whole post, and it might help with the stain, too

What do all victims of domestic violence have in common?

(Slapping back of hand into palm of other) They just don't respect authority.

BIG j/k.

Get over it. It's ketchup. You have a child. Children are messy. You're wife didn't have the time to take your kid into the McDonald's, even though he really wanted to play in the playground. It was late, and the kid needed a nap, so grabbed it 'to go'.

It can be cleaned.

BUT - slippery slope. Make sure you nag her a lot, and bitch and moan about how you have to spend your whole day cleaning up after her, 'cause that's what time it is.

OR - just let it go, it's not worth any aggravation. Put it in perspective.

Well see .. its not that its just a car. if it had been a personal vehicle, i would have let it ride. I just know that the company is very strict on stuff like this, but its chance you take when gettin the cars.

What made it so bad, was that my wife knew something was up when my son just all of a sudden stopped eating and became quiet. haha .. normal kids :-(

Like i said, i will just do some attempts tomorrow, if it comes out GOOD, if not i will get charged.

Wow guys....A lot of anger for an object that gets you from one place to another (Although quickly and in some mighty fine style)....Don't get me wrong I love cars, and I honestly can't wait for my 335i to get here....but I hope I never lose my cool over something that can always be repaired or replaced....I just want my kids to grow up knowing what is important to me (meaning my wife and four kids)....

Glad to hear he really wasn't that angry

I USED to have the same situation with my ex....she got really testy sometimes...I had this HUGE fucking mascara black on the top of my roof so I totally understand man...I used scotchguard cleaner with a MF towel and after about 5-10 minutes of solid scrubbing it came out....the spot was pretty wet but it dried up like it had never been there before.
