Logic 7 OEM downgrade to stock amp a possibility?
**I posted this on another forum bimmerfest today so don't yell at me as I figured if I spread the question I would get a better chance of it getting looked at and thus answered**
Hello all. Pardon me if I'm doing anything wrong, I'm obviously new and not a big forum goer at all. I'm a computer geek who knows relatively little about cars but I'm hands on and quick to grasp most anything, technical or otherwise. So here we go: The other day my speakers had gone, and gave me the SOS with a slash. After troubleshooting I've found it to be my logic7 amp that had gotten wet because my weather guard had finally loosened enough to allow water through during a heavy night of rain and it all pooled underneath the amp, just waiting for me to take a hard enough turn and blow it. Anyways... I went to the local u pull it and pay and they had only 1 2006 330i that had been there 23 days- literally had only its upholstery and the amp/tcu/satellite modules left so I felt I lucked out when I could pickup the replacement amp for just $11.. quite a steal, I figured, as it was in a near perfect condition. OF course I realize now the harness doesn't match up.. is there a way to downgrade to the stock or did I screw up and should go give them this amp back and refund my $11 ( or even sell it on eBay.. seems to fetch a good price ) Thank you and I apologize if this has been asked prior, but it was very difficult for me to find specific information on something like this- actually I didn't find any and that's why I'm here. Edit: some info I may have forgotten to add in my rush to get this posted, My car is also. 2006 330i The stock amp from the car I pulled is a Lear, PL2 HiFi Verst. P.S. a plug n play option is obviously what I'm looking for. Not as interested in cutting wires or building a harness - just a quick fix solution. |

Not a good idea to downgrade if even possible because the impedance therefore load of the logic 7 speakers is different than what the amp is expecting. Also not possible because the Logic 7 uses a different transmission protocol for input signal than hifi (I believe it is fiber optic as opposed to high level analogue).
Return the amp- but weird that it had a different amp, as I believe all US 330s have Logic 7. |

Either way, problems are actually starting to compound in this car (yay just hit 99,013 today sooo yaaaaa 100k probs..) and I don't have the $500 to just throw in on a silly amp. Perhaps I can get something relatively cheaper after selling the stock amp I picked up from the pull&pay lot. Any recommendation? p.s. yeah those wirings for the logic 7 look wayy too beastly to be able to easily fit something on there that'll let this stock amp do it's own thing haha |

The black amp is a Hi Fi amp the Logic 7 amp is considerably bigger
and is silver. Funny I though the stock amp in all 330's in 06 was Logic 7. I seem to have the same habit. get the post in, add the necessary details with edits :P All the threads and that yt vid you've pulled up for me, I found earlier as well. This doesn't actually show me that I can do what I'm asking though or did I miss something? Really appreciate the help though! Thorough is a great start Last edited by a9sublime; 05-19-2018 at 11:58 PM.. |

It would be a lot of work. Off the top of my head, your car won't have the copper input wiring running from the head unit to the amp as the logic 7 uses the fiber. Then you will have a bunch of extra speaker wires that the non logic 7 amp will not connect to. Logic 7 system has more speakers. And coding will be needed. So stick with L7.

I've done a HiFi to Logic 7. You need to be familiar with soldering, coding, and the MOST system. The most time consuming part is just soldering the amp connectors, and maybe learning how to code the radio if you don't already know how. The most bus is a really easy concept to grasp. It's literally just a loop that goes through each module.
If you want to avoid coding, you could replace the radio with one that's already at the base system. |
